You're almost always better off financially buying a used boat, especially a pontoon. If take care of a pontoon last for decades. I insure several from the late 70s and early 80s. As Miguel said, you'll need to have the hull cleaned at least yearly and both maintain and winterize the motor. The trailer may be more useful than you think, even if you only pull it out once a year.

Thanks for all the suggestions. When the pup came home none of the names we considered fit. However, after being with him for a couple of days and after having seen the parents, "Nitro" obviously fits.

We're under a winter storm warning tonight expecting 6-12 inches of snow. Day was in the 40s with wind gusts 25-30 mph. Picked up our new puppy yesterday and surprisingly, he slept through the night without an accident. Not counting on that to continue but would be nice if it did. None of the names on our short list fit so still no name. He's a handsome little guy with obvious potential to be a great hunting companion.
