Designed by a guy called Steve Sells. I hired Steve straight from University back in around 1990 when I was running Engineering at Wharfedale. We were planning to re-launch Leak, and I said to Steve "

The Audio Research 610T, which is what they are, 800W each idling power. So 1.6kW of heat going into the room. Made from 2005 to ?

Now replaced by the not dissimilar 750SEL monoblocks. A bit like Rolls Royce - if you need to know the price, you can't afford one. But if you need to know, a hair under $100k a pair

Some trumpet player or other with his home hi-fi (I'm not sure it was stereo) in the late 1960s.  Photo most likely taken by Jack Bradley.  I'd love to know the identity of the trombone player.  Google has, and I want to be clear about this, utterly fucking useless in this regard.

Well the first two color images had to be taken after 1970 as the album pictured in those two, Swingin’ the Louis Armstrong SongBook by Swing Society with Nannie Porres, was recorded in 1970. Anyway, John Thomas also played trombone with the Louis Armstrong band after replacing Kid Ory and was playing on tour with Armstrong in the 60s.

Couple "Holy Shitballs" pics.  Gryphon Statement amp, the smaller sibling Gryphon Diablo integrated amp was how I got one of my cats' names (Diablo was his middle name).  And a throw in: "are those speaker cables or are you REALLY happy to see me?"

Is there a new bigger is better thing going on in audiophile land?

I'm definitely out of the loop.

We had a drooly cat who used to sleep on the amps. Every now and again I had to take the perforated covers off and wipe of the dried drool.

Long gone alas - she got to a decrepit 19 and we had to say goodbye. In her heyday she was the scourge of the rodent population, including a family of rats that had defeated every other way of killing them.

$280K speakers, $150K in amps, $60K DAC, all stuffed into a room the size of a foyer.

Woo Audio and Lampazitor in the same system... damn this one is a glutton for punishment :palm:

Japanese market Panasonic SA-PM50MD CD/Minidisc system.  Serious cassette futurism vibes.

Looks like they need Milo & Otis to make new amp stands, but the amps are sure shinny.

D'Agostino Relentless. The mono power amps are $£Euro (all about the same these days) half a million for the pair. Each unit weighs a quarter ton - so half a ton for the pair. I have absolutely no idea how they are removed from the pallets. Or what safety requirements are for floor loading.
