Craig Sawyers Posted March 28, 2025 Report Posted March 28, 2025 The Audio Research 610T, which is what they are, 800W each idling power. So 1.6kW of heat going into the room. Made from 2005 to ? Now replaced by the not dissimilar 750SEL monoblocks. A bit like Rolls Royce - if you need to know the price, you can't afford one. But if you need to know, a hair under $100k a pair 2
Knuckledragger Posted April 19, 2025 Report Posted April 19, 2025 This is an absolutely wild one. 2 3
Craig Sawyers Posted April 19, 2025 Report Posted April 19, 2025 Um - where's the speakers? Not the bijou bookshelf ones, surely.
Knuckledragger Posted May 2, 2025 Report Posted May 2, 2025 Some trumpet player or other with his home hi-fi (I'm not sure it was stereo) in the late 1960s. Photo most likely taken by Jack Bradley. I'd love to know the identity of the trombone player. Google has, and I want to be clear about this, utterly fucking useless in this regard. 2
mikeymad Posted May 2, 2025 Report Posted May 2, 2025 Tyree Glenn? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tyree_Glenn
morphsci Posted May 2, 2025 Report Posted May 2, 2025 (edited) Well the first two color images had to be taken after 1970 as the album pictured in those two, Swingin’ the Louis Armstrong SongBook by Swing Society with Nannie Porres, was recorded in 1970. Anyway, John Thomas also played trombone with the Louis Armstrong band after replacing Kid Ory and was playing on tour with Armstrong in the 60s. Edited May 2, 2025 by morphsci
Knuckledragger Posted May 2, 2025 Report Posted May 2, 2025 A commenter on Imgur thought the trombonist was Tyree Glenn as well. Also the system was stereo and was set up to record. It was installed at the request of Lucille Wilson while Satch was in the hospital. https://virtualexhibits.louisarmstronghouse.org/2020/07/31/louis-armstrongs-1969-1971-tapes-reels-1-5/ 1
Knuckledragger Posted May 14, 2025 Report Posted May 14, 2025 (edited) "Nice system, but does it have enough power?" Spoiler Also I totally didn't post the wrong thing in here earlier. Edited May 14, 2025 by Knuckledragger 2
skullguise Posted May 23, 2025 Report Posted May 23, 2025 (edited) Couple "Holy Shitballs" pics. Gryphon Statement amp, the smaller sibling Gryphon Diablo integrated amp was how I got one of my cats' names (Diablo was his middle name). And a throw in: "are those speaker cables or are you REALLY happy to see me?" Edited May 23, 2025 by skullguise 1 3 2
robm321 Posted May 24, 2025 Report Posted May 24, 2025 Is there a new bigger is better thing going on in audiophile land? I'm definitely out of the loop.
Craig Sawyers Posted May 25, 2025 Report Posted May 25, 2025 Those insane phallic speaker cables are these https://in-akustik.com/ls-8005-air-pure-silver-007714683par To you sir, $89k for a 3m pair. 1 2 1
Craig Sawyers Posted May 25, 2025 Report Posted May 25, 2025 Quite a large German outfit, that also has a major vinyl record and music division. https://in-akustik.com/about-us/our-team/
Craig Sawyers Posted June 26, 2025 Report Posted June 26, 2025 We had a drooly cat who used to sleep on the amps. Every now and again I had to take the perforated covers off and wipe of the dried drool. Long gone alas - she got to a decrepit 19 and we had to say goodbye. In her heyday she was the scourge of the rodent population, including a family of rats that had defeated every other way of killing them. 4
Knuckledragger Posted August 6, 2025 Report Posted August 6, 2025 (edited) $280K speakers, $150K in amps, $60K DAC, all stuffed into a room the size of a foyer. Edited August 6, 2025 by Knuckledragger 4 2 1
spritzer Posted August 7, 2025 Report Posted August 7, 2025 Woo Audio and Lampazitor in the same system... damn this one is a glutton for punishment 4
Knuckledragger Posted August 9, 2025 Report Posted August 9, 2025 Japanese market Panasonic SA-PM50MD CD/Minidisc system. Serious cassette futurism vibes. 5

Knuckledragger Posted August 20, 2025 Report Posted August 20, 2025 Here, or speaker porn? The ostentatious aesthetic of the amps wins out, I think. 4
mikeymad Posted August 20, 2025 Report Posted August 20, 2025 Looks like they need Milo & Otis to make new amp stands, but the amps are sure shinny. 2 1
Voltron Posted August 21, 2025 Report Posted August 21, 2025 Those are quite pathetic little amp carts 1
Craig Sawyers Posted August 21, 2025 Report Posted August 21, 2025 D'Agostino Relentless. The mono power amps are $£Euro (all about the same these days) half a million for the pair. Each unit weighs a quarter ton - so half a ton for the pair. I have absolutely no idea how they are removed from the pallets. Or what safety requirements are for floor loading. 2 1
