Ah - the good old battleship grey Cambridge Audio livery. It was panned by the reviewers, as were the buttons on the CD player (they described them as reminiscent of poking dead flesh). Very unfair, b

  • I dunno, can i post this here? The leather was just an idea - making some matching wood pulls would be cool - maybe when things die down at M&O of course my speaker cables are too short

Thanks Dusty!  Good info.  Those KEFs are high priced!  $30K...  Crossed at 350hz and 2.3K so maybe those drivers are not doing too much work.  91db at 4ohms with 3.2ohm minimum.  Very different from my current philosophy.  I wonder how people end up with different philosophies when it comes to systems.  Something like this is so much different from the Magico just one post above it.  Of course the price is a lot different.  But there are plenty of half million dollar cone systems that are similar in philosophy to the KEFs.

The burlap square things are ATS damping panels.  They are standard fiberglass sound absorbing material in a wood frame covered in coffee sacks.  I have four of those two X two panels in the room.  I am seriously considering getting into diffusion, but I like the sound now, so I don't really care that much.

Keep in mind the KEF Blades are a poor mans KEF Muons.

Can we keep repeating that phrase (as I may end up buying the LS50s)?

Those Muons are some of the coolest looking speakers I've ever seen!  I'd love to have a super modern apt. in London or something with those as the centerpiece!

It's pretty common to have more than one set of monitors in a control/mixing/mastering room.

The idea is to have a main set to adjust the sound just right and alternate speakers to get a "real world" idea of how it will sound.

This wouldn't be needed if everybody listened on a great pair of speakers but the majority of the music buying public listen to set ups that have little or no bass and hyped up treble (car stereos, earbuds, laptop and TV speakers).

This doesn't mean that the music is tailored to the lowest common denominator, but, you don't want the important stuff to be lost or screeching.

This process is called "translation".

Actually, those Genelecs are pretty high class for what they're being used for.

I had heard of that process but at the kind of distance it looks like in that photo I am surprised that the Genelec speakers are the "real world" as they should have good response. (or at least that's my hope since I expecting to get a Genelec setup in the future)

They could be eq'ed like crazy or being used for something entirely different (maybe that room is also used by someone who hates the ATC's, the ATC's are being auditioned and the Genelecs are being used as a baseline...?)

Actually, I think they're being used as two different preferences/flavors.  Genelecs and ATCs are both considered upper tier, even (especially?) by those in the industry.  The go-tos for "real world" are the infamous Avantones.

  • 4 weeks later...

Everything better be stapled, nailed, screwed down or otherwise grommeted, otherwise it will be like one of those old vibrating magnetic/weighted football games.

Hard to sit in the sweet spot when you are vibrating around the room.

I'm thinking that rig would be like when I saw Slayer and my clothes were vibrating and I couldn't stop blinking.

  • 1 month later...

I'm getting a severe sense of deja vu on these, think I called them Barney The Dinosaur speakers.....

But yeah, purple or not, would love them.....
