Ah - the good old battleship grey Cambridge Audio livery. It was panned by the reviewers, as were the buttons on the CD player (they described them as reminiscent of poking dead flesh). Very unfair, b

  • I dunno, can i post this here? The leather was just an idea - making some matching wood pulls would be cool - maybe when things die down at M&O of course my speaker cables are too short

Isn't that thing 1/1 and in terrible shape?  Someone on here (Voltskool?) had a look at it and the woofer is blown and not easily replaced.  I forget the specifics.  It's more an objet d'art than a working subwoofer at this point.  If I were gonna drop five digits on Moth gear, I'd get a nice tube space heater or six.  Maybe one of the five Xanas or other exotic (as if all Moths aren't exotic.)

So you want more Moth Audio?

Rega Planar 3 with Ortofon blue cartridge, Rega Apollo CD player, Audiolab 8000q preamp and 8000p power amp, Schiit Bifrost DAC and Mani phono stage. Monitor Audio RX6 speakers.

Love those vintage Sansui gears. Brings back some golden memories!

Damn it!

That little shelf thing that's holding the electronics looks like an Ikea Rast end table.

Popular for using as a diy platform for small 19" rack installs.

Not freakin' longer sold!!!

It's like this picture is taunting me!

I had 'replaced' my Totem Dreamcatchers & Sumiko sub with a pair of Sierra Ascend Towers (w/ RAAL tweeters) and a Rythmik F12se over a month ago. I was happy with everything except for that I missed some of the soundstage/imaging of the Totems. I was feeling sad about selling the Totems, so I had the idea of getting a selector switch. Someone on this forum recommended the Niles SS-4 selector. I bought it, installed it (my fingers are very sore from twisting wire), rearranged the room to have a wider arrangement for the Sierras, and now I have the Totems in place! To be honest, and I'm very surprised about this, when I allow the selector to play both pairs at the same time, it's heavenly. I don't have a measurement mic/software, but I know what I like, and after a few years of iterations, this is it. The other gear: Rega Elex-R, Cambridge CXNv2, and Rega Planar 3.

The room is 28 feet long, with the stereo at one end, and media storage at the other. Side walls and the ceiling have DIY sound absorbing panels (the foam on the back wall was an old attempt that didn’t do too much). I’m still working on speaker placement a bit.

Speakers are Altec 515 15” woofers in Onken cabinets, Altec 288 midrange compression drivers with Jabo fiberglass horns, and Aurum Cantus G1 ribbon tweeters, all time aligned. Crossover points are at 700 Hz and 2500 Hz, with 2 powered Snell subs taking over the super low end.

Quicksilver horn mono tube amps for the mids and tweeters, a Linn Klout solid state for the bass bins, a Parasound Halo P5 preamp, Arcam universal disc player, Nakamichi CR2A tape deck, Pro-ject Perspective turntable with an Ortofon 2M Black into a Budgie tube phono stage, with an acrylic platter and Speedbox S.

It’s overly complicated, I know, but I like how it sounds all together, and getting there was part of the fun of it.

I’ll be adding a TV eventually and a way to stream lossless files (using an old MacBook Pro now).

At some point I would love to get a Genelec set up.

One of the nice things about working at my first real job was that we could* use the mastering studio after hours to listen to music.  High end (at the time) Genelec setup.  It was great.

*I mean, we weren't supposed to, but IT had master keys.
