Semi in this case because Elma Silmics are good caps (Nelson Pass seems to like them), std parts places like Mouser carry them, etc. They are only 85C rated, unlike the Panas and Nichicon which are 105C.

Not exactly sure. He said it real quick in passing. I should investigate!

Anyone have any 2SJ74GR they would be willing to trade? I can provide BL or V matched sets in exchange. Ideally, I could get around 50 of these.

Also, for those that have secret transistor sources, I would like some more 2SJ313/2SK2014 if you see them around.

Any recs for a hot air rework gun/kit, cheap?
Looking at some of them on eBay. It won’t get a ton of use so no need for a really good one, just something to get the job done.

I got Sparkfun 303d station.  Not the cheapest but the air pump in the base is better than in the gun, i think.  Did all my smd's with it.

Ebay got lots of choices but not sure which will support parts, warranty, complaints, etc.

 

Looking for those mumetal bands that you wrap around a toroid transformer for extra shielding. Somebody used them in a build thread in here a few months ago and I'm having a hard time finding it again. Can anybody point me in the right direction?

I have been curious about their cans. Seems a bit spendy though.

Looks like the BF862 is finally seeing its demise. It was labeled EOL a while back and now the part hoarders are sucking them dry. There are a few left at Newark, so I ordered some. Good parts for MC phono-stage input, which was my use. You can also parallel them a get a good 2SK170 replacement - folks even made boards to stick four of them together.

How do people crimp pins for connectors? Do you actually buy the $500-1500 corresponding crimp tool or make do with something else?

In the beginning I soldered most of them. Worked well, but a bit fiddly with smaller connectors (JST XH/PH etc). Then I decided to buy one of these http://www.engineer.jp/en/products/pa09e.html and now I'm not going back to soldering anytime soon

As usual I went down the rabbit hole of reading about all the different models and ended up more confused than I started about what will work with which connectors... I ended up buying a different one. Let's compare sometime! 

I started to and then I just pulled the trigger.  Interested to see what you came up with.  There seem to me some options to crimp both parts of the connector at the same time (bare wire / insulation).

I need to get one of those myself (had run across them before but never pulled the trigger). I have the Molex hand crimpers and they leave quite a bit to be desired.

Damn that hurts. The hirose tool I would need probably wouldn't show up for years and certainly wouldn't be anywhere close to 100  some molex ones I saw on eBay were still like 300. I am looking into service grade 

I'm using Molex 0638111000 (Digikey WM9999-ND) for Molex KK connectors. Nice tool.

Yes that is the one I was looking at getting, have you tried it with any non Molex connectors and does it crimp both wings at the same time or one at a time? If both, can you measure the exact width? I was thinking of CNCing my own die but realized it may not be as simple as I first thought.

In other news, I just got off the phone with a service rep at arrow who had a quaint Southern drawl and I accidentally switched to my approximation of one halfway through the convo. 

Just got the crimper UFN recommended.  Works nice so far.  Very snug  

Simple solutions are best.

Yes, it crimps both wings at the same time. First you crimp conductor (wire), then you crimp insulator with larger die that is close to holders.

I was looking at Engineer PA-09/20 as well, but it doesn't have separate die for crimping insulator.

Regarding width, I cannot measure it at the moment. But I always use Molex, e.g.lock header 22-11-2022 + crimp terminal connector 0008550131/0008550130 + lock housing 0009508023. Fits perfectly.

I also used it with TE Connectivity connectors which are Molex analogue.
