Arrived yesterday and it really opens up every electrostatic headphone that I own. I was looking for an amp that can bring more bass out of my HE90 than HEV90 so I drained my pocket to bid on this and

  • I have been getting back at this..working up to a limited run of these as the STAX SR-X9000 and Audeze CRBN have made that need to happen. But the chassis is extraordinarily expensive and difficult to

  • Isn't everybody glad that I'm crazy enough to buy this stuff and have Kevin rip it apart?

Pick me pick me!!! :( I so need an amp to go with my O2 :)

Honestly, I think you'd really deserve it, if only for running your headphone wiki. Nominated you btw.

Wow!!! Thanks a lot! I can also use it to help move my GU50 electrostatic amp along. Unfortunately it's in trouble now as amp is not stable.

I threw my hat in the ring. Rest assured that if I get it, it stays in this family.

I hope someone in "Team Animal Avatars" wins and sends me a couple of those metal base 6SN7! :)

I wish that Afrikane's ES-1 goes to Spritzer or Dmitri, both guys truly deserve it ;D

I cast some nominations to Kane in a PM. His generousity really is awesome.

Send a PM to Kane :D This amp sure looks nice doesn't it? The only thing it might have wall warts inside ;)

I threw my hat in the ring since that amps need to be rebuilt, properly. Split filament supplies, remove that silly biasing scheme, add a proper umbilical cable, remove the crappy bias supply, address the rest of the PSU issues, remove all the magic "tweaks" and put in some nice Teflon sockets.

Kane was going to send it to either me or Kevin last year but nothing came of it. Even back then he made it quite clear that he didn't want the amp back once it was finished.

Dance of Death came out on DVD-A? What resolution? How're the dynamics, compressed?

I'm not sure about the resolution since the box says nothing about it and I'm not sure the Denon 3910 can give me that info. The dynamics are better (enough so that the Egmont has a hissy fit) and the recording has this ease to it much the same as good SACD. Now if the damn thing would start off in stereo mode and not silly 5.1...

I stand no chance now :P

Now, now it ain't over till it is over. I could donate a some BH boards to the "let's get Dimitri an amp" fund, plus a couple of 2sk389's and a few other random parts if you want to take that route.

Sorry for off topic but has anyone heard of or seen any reasonable DIY solutions to a lambda frame? I have a few ideas in mind but nothing that seems solid enough to put into action yet.

Lambda drivers are huge and oval, I have no idea what existing frame you can possible put them into. I bet you can make a nice wooden frame from hard wood and use existing baffle.

Ah my fault, I guess I mean headband. I bought one that had the top piece of the headband broken off and currently have a craptastic solution using a hangar right now.

What says HC of the 4070? I head it at CJ and I was really rather impressed. I'm thinking that they may be more neutral than the O2 and I'm not loving the O2's sound leakage.

What's the ruling in these parts?

The 4070 is a monitor so ruthlessly revealing (the SR-007 does dig out more detail to my ears) and the bass is a bit on the anemic side. Otherwise there is little to criticize and for a closed headphone they are a marvel with just a hint of thickening in the upper midrange. They are heavy though and the earpads can get a bit clammy. I've been thinking about revisiting the 4070 now that the SR-404LE earpads are available. The thicker material should help the bass a bit.

I've been thinking on those earpads as well (for a different headphone), should improve the comfort to 10/10 for me, although I guess they are not cheap - maybe a group buy? ;)

I've never seen a price listed for them so Stax may be sitting on them, selling only to LE owners. :-\

can't you put the drivers into just about any Lambda frame?

The baffle is the same size on all Lambdas so it's just plug and play. The new arc's are also a solution but not cheap. KuboTen is far cheaper then those highway robbers at AudioCubes though.
