Arrived yesterday and it really opens up every electrostatic headphone that I own. I was looking for an amp that can bring more bass out of my HE90 than HEV90 so I drained my pocket to bid on this and

  • I have been getting back at this..working up to a limited run of these as the STAX SR-X9000 and Audeze CRBN have made that need to happen. But the chassis is extraordinarily expensive and difficult to

  • Isn't everybody glad that I'm crazy enough to buy this stuff and have Kevin rip it apart?

Yup. They seem to be in good condition too.

Ok thanks, I was almost certain they were, but the flash just made them seem almost too light in color to be lambda signatures. The foam on the inside of the cup(by the ear) is missing. Should I even bother to replace it with another fabric or just leave it as it is?

Yeah, they sure can photograph as either a fairly light brown or nearly black. You can also tell from the cable and arc assembly though that they arnt a later version. I think most people tend to just leave the pads as-is, though you can certainly experiment if you desire. Might be a hair more comfy with some very open foam, though that depends on your own ears.

It would be easiest to just buy a set of new pads and use the fabric inserts. Be sure to treat the old earpads with a vinyl cleaner to make them a bit softer.

Thanks for the tips, just wanted you guys to know that my "quibble" on the O2s treble is coming from the SRM-T1, which is definately an amp known by many to be insufficient in driving the O2s. I had bought the T1 earlier because I thought I was also aquiring a set of Lambda Sigs at the same time while I wait for the BHSE. I told myself that I would not even bother to plug the O2s into the T1 and use it only with the Lambda Sig, but alas the Lambda Sigs never came. It looks like my curiosity got the best of me and now im paying for it with frustration.:palm:

It just so happens that a pair of Lambda Sigs are coming my way now, so I can safely put the O2s to rest until the BHSE comes...

Although i'll probably pull it back out of its case once I listen to the Lambda Sigs and say "WTF.....what is this unrefined piece of ****":chair:

Got a set of Sylvania 6SN7GTBs with the 6SN7 adapter + a ToLab carrying case and some Telos Audio thingies I don't recognise from Elephas today, free of charge :o

As far as I can tell the 6SN7GTBs are working pretty well with the T1S. I'll report more when I have the time to compare them with the Toshibas

Yeah, it would be nice to have a relatively small SS amp around.

I think the 404LE + 717 combo is selling for around $1800. That could buy a few good EL34 instead. :D

They have 717, 727 and 007tII demo units. I brought my Jade over to have them install heatshrink over the Y-split, and then plugged it into the 717 briefly to compare with an SR-404. I thought the Jade won quite easily.

Hi Elephas, pls check your PM

Hi Elephas, pls check your PM

Oh, come now ... he said "pls"

Soooo...I just sold my HD800's and bought an OII MK1/007t combo.

Will be my first electrostats ever.

I excite.

You might find yourself living in the midrange until you can spring for a more suitable amp, but it should be a very nice place to live. Congrats.

Used, on the 'gon.

AudiogoN ForSale: STAX SR-007

I paid a good bit lower than his asking price. I don't know if it was a *great* deal (what do 007t's go for nowadays?), but I figured with all the stuff that he included, it still wasn't bad.

Thanks. Hey, I like the midrange, its nice and warm and comfy ;) What should I be looking at for a decent upgrade? I don't really feel like blowing more than $2k for an amp.

His brother is number 2 Stax importer in all Khazakstahn.

Yes, I hear he give good deal in exchange for 40000 tampon, no applicator.

As you carefully followed the advice in your welcome PM and read a lot of what's posted, and while researching the O2, surely you read that the initial decent O2 amps are Stax 717 and KGSS. Right? Finding one for sale then becomes the challenge, but both are around your price range.

There isn't a huge difference between a 007t and 717 with O2s. Since the O2s are already quite polite with a 717, the 007t just makes the sound warmer. If you feel the 007t is lacking bass though, get a set of Herbies tube dampers for it, which will rectify that.

And switch to 6SN7GTB/As ;)

I'm fairly certain that the GTBs are more dynamic and generally sound better when you turn the volume all the way up, but of course I haven't done a back to back with the Toshibas.

With the 6SN7 -> 6CG7 adapters there's so many tube-rolling possibilities that it boggles the mind =_=

Heh, I see Tung-Sol black glass round plates or Sylvania metal base in your future.

some Telos Audio thingies I don't recognise

They are RCA caps.

Probably won't affect the sound, but looks cool.

Wrong ! The KGSS sucks - no real power, resulting in muddy bass.

BIG disappointment.

cheers

Tom
