Cocktails of the Day!

Before dinner: HC Rum Old Fashioned

Wow, the Smith and Cross is really a lot different than I imagined and it packed quite a kick. Not sure I should have been drinking this on an empty stomach. I am not sure I am a fan of the S&C yet, it will take some time to get used to it.

2 oz Smith & Cross Navy Strength rum

1 sugar cube

2 dashes of Angostura bitters

1 dash of sparkling water

After dinner:

Jack Rose (Anvil)

3/2 oz Calvados XO (sub for applejack)

3/4 oz lemon juice

2 dashes of homemade grenadine

I thought this drink was quite bland and not worth drinking out poured it out. Maybe it was the Calvados, maybe too much lemon. Not a fan.

Knickerbocker a la Monsieur

I also used Smith & Cross in this but it worked better because it was more than rum and a bitter of sugar/bitters. Still gives quick a kick though. I also really like this drink.

3/2 oz Smith and Cross rum

1/2 oz Senior Curacao

1/2 oz Monin Raspberry syrup

3/4 oz Meyer lemon juice

Splash of pineapple juice

2 dashes of cherry bitters

Heh, maraschino can be dangerous, but when it works it's pretty good.

Cobble Hill Cocktail

2 oz Sazerac Rye

1/2 oz Dolin Dry Vermouth

1/2 oz Amaro Montenegro

2 slices of cucumber

Stir vigorously and double strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a lemon twist.

Jim, nice! That amaro is one I want to pick up, but haven't found a good source for :/

Nice drinks all around!

Shelly, I think the S&C will grow on you. I have a feeling you'll have the same reaction times two to the W&N :)

Lunch at FFF. Lots of good beer currently on tap: Brian Boru, Rabid Rabbit, Behemoth, Cortez, Zombie Dust, Cerveza Mysterio, Topless Wytch, Krunk Monk, Ham on Rye. Too many for one sitting, that's for sure. Having a Brian Boru for starters.

After the Jasmine, which contains gin, Campari, Cointreau, and lemon and being underwhelmed I tried a slight twist.

(Not At All A) Jasmine

1.5 oz Reposado Tequila

0.75 oz lime juice

0.5 tbsp Cointreau

0.5 tbsp Campari

Shake with ice and double strain.

I think it's nice. Maybe add a bit of simple syrup depending on your preferences.

Edit: nah, it's just right

Brasserie Dieu Du Ciel Peche Mortel. Way more drinkable that it has any right to be @ 9.5%.

Vesper! Followed by a Corpse Reviver.

Now having a Bushwick

2 oz Sazerac Rye

3/4 oz Carpano Antica

1 1/2 tsp Amer Boudreau

1 1/2 tsp Luxardo Maraschino

Stir, strain and serve sans any garnish

One point five times one of these Bushwicks. In a hurry!

Continuing with Anvil... a Plymouth, Carpano Antica and Campari Negroni. Nice!

Next, this... with equal parts. Don't tell Duggeh:

Try the Jasmine with lime and a bit more gin. I used tanqueray.

Marc: What does your weird concoction taste like?

Al: How do you like the Perucchi vermouth?

Cooking with Shelly (a Cooking with Colin spinoff)

A glass of 2009 Parker Estate Cabernet Sauvignon with dinner.

Tonight I made some Tuscan Lemon Grilled Chicken, with roasted sweet potatoes (sprinkled with oil oil, brown sugar, salt and pepper), and roasted green beans (with onions, garlic, sprinkled with olive oil, salt, pepper and a little parmesan at the end). Tasted much better than it looks in the picture.
