  2. In the parlance of our times ZoomerSpeak, bro's speaker-to-everything-else ratio tho.
  3. Does Quad still make a DAC or some Quad-like equivalent? They love to make CDPs and preamps with digital inputs. To this day the most "musical" DAC I've ever owned is my Quad 99 CDP-2 (which is now so old it'd be a senior in high school.) Looking at their website, they have an "Artera Play+" model which appears to be a CDP with six digital inputs and USB. That sounds like the Quad I know and love, batshit insane but with a real beauty mixed in with their quirkiness.

  5. I think that’s Louis sachmo my dad knew him when I was a kid that’s his place in queens nyc was there a few times. really nice man now this is 55 years ago and correct me if im wrong but I was at his place a few times it became a museum and a local high school was named after him too. my kids went to that school many years later https://www.louisarmstronghouse.org/ yup im right
  6. The DAC1 sounded like glass breaking to me. I am liking an ESS Sabre based Dac recently. I missed the AKM chip fad, so maybe someone else can comment on the those. I’d be curious to try the Topping D70 Pro Sabre, due to the form factor and marginal upgrade over my all-in-one mass drop Ess/thx 789. The real appeal is in a few years relegating it to living room duty, and using the Bluetooth function for easy uses. Makes me feel a little bit of the Swiss army feeling I got looking at the NAD M51. Impossible to tell with just measurement data. But the mid-fi DAC game is like playing whack-mole with compromises. I’d be happy if something sounded marginally better than my iPhone dac, and has balanced outputs. Rebook only is still a thing. I recently saw a PMD100 surround sound Dac for cheap that looked cool. I’m not sure how the components hold up, and can’t justify used gear unless I see internals these days.
  7. My speakers and amps not my place I rebuilt the speakers and new woofer towers non servo the amps are also rebuilt by me to original specs Also own a pair of apogee diva and Dax two Krell ksa200 b Amps all re habbed Headphones are soo much easier
  8. You know if this topic is on build I get it , but sound and stage wise if classical off the charts very sensitive to source in an extreme manner. as a kid way way before most all here I’m guessing I used bookshelf speakers as headphones in bed lol later for headphones and my first source was tape back rhen they were cheap to buy the jecklin had little bass for sure much like Hifiman jade 2 lol met Mr j at a Hifi show many years ago too nice old guy
  9. I genuinely cannot tell the political stance of this parody. Is it mocking Cracker Barrel and their logo redesign kerfuffle? Is it making fun of Bernie? Is it lampooning the former from the perspective of the latter? In any case, it's well executed.
  10. Elis & Tom by Elis Regina (1973) https://album.link/czmvv4mcjqbhn Example:
  11. More Eagly. More James Gunn. Season two (HBO Max).
  12. Yesterday
  13. Got to see a jazz orchestra play at a house party (the house of the drummer; when did drummers get houses and not cardboard boxes to live in? And there was this bonkers 50ft radius tree swing he built for his kids (and it's *totally* not a sex swing, I hear). It's pretty bonkers. Was hit up about this just hours before it started; such a neat thing to stumble across. I knew 2.5ish people b4 I went there and came out probably having expanded the musician friend group in the area a bit. My kind of people (band nerds.) Such a good time.
  14. Greek Figs
  15. How old DOS games actually sounded (if you had money):
  16. Love that video.....I only wish they had Bernie's intro where he accentuates that this is "HIS" version of "my song." Plus....I realize that "Hip Bill" dancing....is kind of like Trump! 🤣
  17. Went to the San Jose Lowrider Day downtown today. Quick visit, but some snaps from Hassy 907x 50c with XCD 45p (4x3) and Nikon Df with CV 40mm f/2 (3x2). Funny enough I liked more Nikon shots.
  18. For some reason I cannot stop laughing at this......
  19. Last week
  20. Not really, but they were the ones leaving written evidence
  21. so what do we have here stax 717 in a strange huge metal case now the weight has increased from 5 kg to 11 kg I don't know who did it and why it seems like the case is made well, all the places for fastenings are made accurately but the weight... whoever did it seems to have no idea about the cost of international delivery of 1 kg by air... another strange thing is 2 side lemo connectors if we look at what is connected there, everything is simple this is 1 channel (left) is connected to one lemo and then the second lemo is connected to the 5 pin socket who and why did it - is a mystery to me tomorrow I will try to switch the jumpers to 220v and turn it on, and also connect the left channel back to the stax connector I wonder who and why brought the left channel outside the amplifier) it looks like there are no other modifications but I'm not sure about that...

    Podcast Thread

He's a featured character in Jon Ronson's 2001 book Them: Adventures with Extremists (whether by luck or by some insight, Ronson has been ahead of this stuff for decades) On that topic, Ronson did a podcast series exploring the origins of lots of the culture war fights. Definitely worth a listen https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m0011cpr/episodes/player?page=1
