Ha - I literally watched this two days ago.. I watched the series when it came out and I owned it on tape. This vid did help me understand some things. I have watched some reactions to the series, and it is mostly people saying, WTF? most of the time... Great series, great use of stillness and the sound of cicadas. Anyway - The player looks cool, I don't think it fits my use case...

  5. Still trying to make sense of Sunny's murder and failing to do so. I knew her for just under 30 years. I actually remember the day I met her. It was August 31st, 1997, my first day at Bradford College. Also the day Princess Diana died. I've been a photographer for two decades at this point, but I have precious few photos of Sunshine. I had been meaning to catch up with her for years, but as tragically is so often the case, I kept putting it off. The last conversation I had with her was two years ago when her father passed. I sent her this photo: I look it in 2012 with the never-not-shit EF-75-300mm. I ran it though the Silver FX Pro plugin, which I favored at the time. Mark (Sunny's dad) was ...a piece of work, but certainly a character. In this shot he's a man in his element. The only photos I have of Sunny herself are from 2007 and 2008. I took this one on my back porch in October of 2007. When I remember is she had to leave early. That fall was marked by two things: some of the best foliage colors I've ever witnessed in scenic western MA, and the absolute peak of dubstep. Not brostep fart noises, but the original very sparse minimal reggae tinged sound that started in say 2003 and was dead by 2009. There was a big dubstep party that happned about two days after Sunny left. I did the lights and if memory serves, I DJ'd at the after party. Initially Sunny wanted to attend, but business in Maine called her back. Sunny was possibly the biggest extrovery I ever knew. She had no shortage of self confience. Yet she did not like having her picture taken. This shot and the following one are from July of 2008, just shy of 17 years ago. She wasn't pleased that I was pointing my SLR at her. As I have said many times, I always prefer portraits where the subject is reacting to anything but the camera. I mentioned the Silfer FX Pro plugin earlier. Prior to that, I used to make heavy use to two Photoshop scripts I found in the mid 00s. One was "holgafy" and the other was "lomofy." Both were more than a bit heavy handed, but I taught myself to reverse engineer and wrangle them a bit. I did to passes with said scripts on a photo of Sunny in 2007, but never published the edits. I found them yesterday while looking for photos of her. I don't particularly like either edit, but he lo-fi effects of the scripts take on an entirely new meaning in light of Sunny's passing. At the risk of repeating myself, if you have someone you haven't spoken to in entirely too long, do it today. There may not be a tomorrow.

I'm still in the honeymoon stage with my DAP to really know how I'm going to feel about it, but just in case anyone else is considering separating out portable audio old school/cassette/MiniDisc/iPod style from the phone and notifications and with headphone outs and decent power, the often recommended HiBy R4 is on sale for Prime Days for $199. Not the model I went with, but then again this wasn't on sale then or I may have. You just have to get around the "anime" design and a little weight.

  10. I’m using a single cathode resistor. When you are using two 3300R resistors, as on your board, I guess that is equivalent to one 1650R. If you follow silk screen you will get -100V or so on output. You probably need to double resistor values. Maybe someone out there can tell more about this.
  11. I’m planning to use ±400 V for the supply with an anode current around 23 mA. I noticed that on Kevin’s PCB layout for the 300B, the cathode resistors are shown as two 3300 Ω parts. Do you think I should replace those with 3600 Ω instead? Also, for filament voltage switching, I’m using the pin header setup shown below(MPN: 0010897120). Each row corresponds to 2.5V, 5V, 6.3V, and 12.6V, and I also left one extra row reserved in case I need it in the future.
  12. Not going to go see them on tour but that doesn't mean I can't dust off the old records and jam out.

  15. So sorry to hear that, Dan. Don't know what to say.
  16. Thanks. XGL6020 inductors are probably excellent. With TPS62913 I use Wurth 2.2uH 4.4 x 4.1 mm, which works all right. I don’t change anything when switching between 300B and 2A3 (except from filament voltage). Both tubes need 3.6K cathode resistors @20mA. EL34 needs 1.6K and EML 20B needs 0.6K. I use small daughter boards with resistors and jumpers to change cathode resistance.
  17. That's horrible to hear. Sorry 😔
  18. No tweezers were harmed in the making of this plate.

  20. What's the over/under on "Micro Greens" and "Foam" on the menu?
  21. Dang an entire kitchen just filled with people with tweezers..
  22. Yup smoker still works. I had a good chunk of it as sushi last night, sans wasabi, which bummed me out, but the fish was yummy. And the chunk of freshly smoked for supper tonight night was lovely. Also receently 10lbs of pork belly {not pictured}...
  23. Last week
  24. No words other than I'm so sorry, Dan. That's just horrible.....
  25. Holy shit. One of my closest friends from college was murdered not far from where she lived. Sunny was one of the toughest people I've ever met. I can scarcely process this.
  26. I used an inductor from Coilcraft, MPN: XGL6020-222MEC. The manufacturer claims it has the lowest DCR in the industry for its class, and it’s also very compact at around 6.71 x 6.71 mm. For the output voltage selection, I set it up with a few jumpers to switch between different resistor values for 2.5V, 5V, and 6.3V outputs. If you need help calculating those resistor values, just let me know. Also, I’m curious. When you switch from 300B to 2A3, did you modify any surrounding circuit parameters, or can you drop them in directly (aside from changing the filament voltage)?
  27. Figured i'd finally go through my tubes, sort them out a bit. Too many to catalogue properly in one go (which is why i never bothered) Was never quite meant to become the hoard it is, but.. left Luxman with crates worth of stuff, left ML with yet more crates, then isn't life funny when none are what you "wanted" for your then current system a few years later, so there you go buying more when they were still crazy cheap. Then you buy yet some more, because what if, right? You haven't got everything. And, yeah Sorted four 24"x16"x16" crates full of NOS tubes. I'd say 6-7 more to go; some other time. It's 23:28 and i'm spent. (actually 60x40x40 in cents, but i figure that's close enough?) So far am going with input/output/rec, US-EU/RU. It's gonna take some time. One of many things i miss dearly? Proper packing cartons. Yes, really. Nothing decent in EU. ECT/load-rated? Don't even ask, they'll think you're so funny. Not sure they know what this is down here:
  28. Car was set up for qualifying and also to defend on the straights during the race. However these conditions would have required more downforce. Despite not having the best strategy and the spin, still ended up P5 with that car. While it feels like he could be soon out of the championship fight, he might still have a big effect on who comes out on top at the end.
