For those who lived in the Chicagoland area in the 1980s or knew the music/club scene there, I have a question. In 1982, my brother was in business school at Northwestern and my family went to visit him that summer. Using his ID, I went with him and another older brother to see a young band named Survivor, with a month or so of the Rocky 3 release date. They played at a place in DesPlaines according to my brother, and it was a redneck bar or hall with hay bales around the perimeter for seating. Does that place sound familiar to anyone? June is gay pride month. I remember my first time marching in a gay pride parade. It was 1984 and I was 23 years old. It was in Anchorage, Alaska. I had just recently come out to my family, and I was finally ready to overcome my embarrassment and stand with my friends in a public setting. It was absolutely a milestone for me after years of shame. During our march a protest group from the Anchorage Babtist Temple decided that they could not let a group of LGBTQ people come across as normal, and allow us a peaceful march. OK, I know that he doesn't visit here and most likely won't see this, but I was struck by the fact that he turns 39 today. In a funny way Duggeh started the whole headphone stand business that I was once involved in. He had a pair of Jecklin headphones, and posted that he was worried they'd get scratches by just setting them on his desk. So without any instruction from him I went out to my shop, found some scrap wood, and built my first headphone stand. I messaged him that I had something that I'd like to send him.
