So, I admit I'm far from technologically savvy, but I can often read fairly well. I went to post a reply in the Neked Women Avatar thread and I see no reply button, no quote button...nothing. Do y'all not want my profound and erudite female perspective? Okay, even if not, why no buttons?

I have been out of the loop for a week or so. I got to work today and was greeted with this: http://www.sun-sentinel.com/multimedia/os-remembering-chris-hondros-20110421,0,4525593.story (Chris Hondros remembered) Chris Hondros took Joe Raedle's place in Libya. His work, along with Joe's and Carolyn Cole's has always stood out and made me look at the wires, even when I'm working on local copy. Thursday before last, just before I started my time off, one of Hondros' pictures stopped me cold. It was a beautiful (if such a thing is possible), iconic image of a rebel fighter. I switched it to full screen and showed it to the photographer sitting next to me and made a c…

Hey all, I am flying this afternoon and am planning on bringing my portable headphone amp in my carry on bag. I won't have any full size cans, just my IEMs with me (which might make explaining what it is even harder). Has anyone had problems getting through security with one? It does look rather odd if you don't know what it is, especially when tethered to my ipod and there is a LOD between them.

On my way back from Alabama I made a little detour in Kentucky to stop at the Buffalo Trace distillery. They are the makers of some local favorites such as Sazerac, George T. Stagg, and the Van Winkle line. Figured I would share some pictures from my tour. Entrance to the distillary Water tower Entrance to gift shop Grain storage silos Mash cooker Cooked mash cooling in cooker Fermenter Small batch still Distiller testing station. The beer is distilled twice through two different stills. The stream from each still can be seen inside the barrels. Tasty 140 proof moonshine. First still is about 40ft tall. …

I for one am glad to see that the popularity of a President that hasn't been given much of a chance to succeed, is ending on a very high note. I'm also very happy to see his very large numbers of commutations of low level, no violent criminals, who were IMO unjustly sentenced to ridiculous terms. I'll be sad to see him leave office, as I will the most elegant, benevolent First Lady of my lifetime. Happy Birthday Sir!

As a music critic and journalist, I can get pretty jaded about listening to the new CDs that cross my desk (or, increasingly, the digital downloads or streams that are grudgingly entrusted to me by record labels through top-secret back alleys of the Interwebs). But I can

I just got spam email from CEntrance. They referred to HF to help sell their product. The only place I can think of where they could have gotten my email addy is HF. Has anybody else received this spam? I guess it's time to delete my account on HF.

It looks like the internet infrastructure is starting to buckle under the strain of increased usage. YouTube is setting standard definition as the default resolution next month and Sony is slowing down PlayStation downloads in Europe. I'm not going to feel too smug about amassing a library of CDs and Blu-rays, just a little. What are you guys doing to adjust to staying at home? I plan on getting a lot more reading and writing done. Unfortunately, the gyms have been shut down so I'll have to stick to running, bicycling, etc. to get my exercise.

In my case, Before I automatically started ordering an isolation platform with any disc player. Before I lined up several portables in a level-matched (to sub-0.5dbs), blind-switch test. After all, if you're going to do it, you might as well do it properly unlike the fanboys. Before I could quite breezily say spending $10K on a used headphone was not entirely unjustifiable. Before I knew what word clocks were. Before Geekophilia. I think I might finally be approaching that phase.
