  4. So this morning I was in charge of taking Lance to fencing practice since Mary was at the hospital checking in on one of our friends who is very very sick. Since I had three hours to kill I decided to pop into Performance Bicycles to update myself on the latest bike porn which I cannot buy. While roaming the carbon fibre wheel section I hear some loud racket in the next aisle. I look around the corner and see two guys bent over a recumbent bike and working on the chain ring. That's odd I thought, then I notice one of the guys is in a wheel chair with a US Marines sticker and a Gary Sinise Foundation sticker fixed prominently on the back of his wheel chair. Soon they are joined by a second man, also in a wheel chair with a US Marines sticker on the back. Between the two veterans they had a total of three working limbs and a lot of carbon fiber prosthesis. My "appreciate what you have" button took a massive reset at that moment.

  9. I wear water proof mid height hiking boots but the water can be as much as knee high on the trail so you get wet. I've been doing it for a long time so doesn't bother me. It should be pretty dry out by now but we have not had much of a dry season. If you ever want to go out there, let me know. I would be happy to be your guide.

  11. ^ ...has been making the rounds on Facebook this weekend -- apparently it's specifically designed for women. http://nerdist.com/st-vincent-ernie-ball-guitar-for-women/ On an unrelated note, I sent out two of four guitars today, so the downsizing begins. I am getting one in return, but it's a really nice one, and will take up 1/4 less space.

  12. The FreeNAS Mini seems pretty expensive for what it is especially considering it's only 4 bays. If you were willing you could build your own FreeNAS box using a regular mini-tower pc case with 7-8 bays for half the cost. I've had a Synology for many years and have been looking to upgrade/replace it. Once I have the time I'm going to be building my own FreeNAS box.

  13. Does this sit in a closet, or is it furniture? Cause if it can be ugly then you can get a small server with more power for less money. Any version of *nix will run all the things you want without much trouble. I run a headless TS440 with Vortexbox/Fedora and it does everything you mention.

  14. China's a LONG way from being ready to be the dominant economy. They have to recover from decades of artificial infrastructure building and corruption. It's China that's currently fucking the rest of the world as they correct...

  15. The Utopias are really seamless. It could be the worlds greatest single driver if you didn't know better. And they go low low low! That classical piece they played was amazing sounding. The image height of the stage seemed like it was 25' tall.
