On Thursday, the bistec al pastor at El Gaunaco (a JP discovery) was a total home run.

Round two of my DIY 'stats. Again using SR-X driver shells but now with my own bias rings (laser cut aluminum) and 1.4um film. This is more of a test bed for different glue and coating ideas but I have to say it sounds bloody awesome. I haven't received a large shipment of custom earpads so these are just using what I had sitting here. Alternating between some cheapo Fostex TH900 clones off ebay and A-T leather units. The sound changes a bit with the different earpads but not by a great deal. I did try some old SR-007 pads and I didn't like them at all. The thin, non-angled, A-T pads are excellent with this setup. The sound is very lively, energetic and punchy. I'm also narrowing down on the kind of soundstage I like, small but very precise. Now the small drivers will never beat the larger ones in terms of bass output but the super stretched 1.4um film is pretty impressive here. I don't find them bass anemic at all even though they clearly roll of earlier than the 007's. Next steps are more tests and I'm finishing up some new driver designs. Not the cheapest option but I'm going to try to make as many prototypes as I can so I can test back and forth easily. Guess I'll need some more storage space for the headphones then... In other news, I was looking for some earpads earlier and came across the Mr. Speakers Electrostatic pads.... now what the fuck are they smoking? Huge internal area for an electrostatic? This is the same amateur hour as King Sound.

I've been playing a bit with the design. Trying to keep it to only +/-450V rails + filaments. I also wanted to see if I could keep the servo. Here's what I came up with. The 6DJ8's anodes are sitting at about 67V. I think this works well, but could easily shift the operating point for these. Q9 & 10 are dissipating about .46W, but we could do a thermal pad on the top of the board and should be good There's still some tweaking on some of the parts. Also, thought to do the 47 ohm hum bucker resistors to ground on the filaments. I've gotten the 200V supply down to about 5mA so not to bad on the pass fet (1.25W). I would embed this with each channel and mount to the heat sink. Could probably use FQPF8N80C here instead. The servo uses the HV opamp we use in the PS, etc. I'm running about 1mA though it. Models well, but need to test this. I've also brought the bottom up with the 400K resistor so we could use lower voltage transistors in it. Right now is sits at about 40V between R34 and R9. The output is sitting around -4V. I'll need to play with this a bit more, though this isn't a real issue. Definitely worth a build. Yes, opto Servo is engaged. It settles much faster than Carbon does, and is more stable with offset and balances values as well. The only thing is the current which may slowly drift upward from 20mA to 21mA, but then it stays stables over hours without problems and heat dissipation is not an issues

My earlier response was influenced by my son's successful tournament results yesterday so after further (sober) consideration I must say I am quite surprised by your flippant and unprofessional request. If you are in fact a Marshall Business School student, I cannot believe they have not taught you basic business etiquette as yet. Please let us know what you end up with. I am using 15V rails and 301 ohm resistors and it sounds fine so I never bothered to try anything else.

Beautiful piece of work, Kerry In the recent months I've been slowly working on my T2, ended up rebuilding the entire amp board with mostly new parts. Just in the off chance that it was something in the board itself which caused the noise I was hearing. Thankfully nothing blew up, the batteries adjusted to 741V, and it plays music. I could still hear a background noise in it though. Having listened to George's T2 as well I was all but convinced this is just the normal noise level for this amp. I asked JoaMat about his solid state inputs for the T2, and he was kind enough to send them to me to test out (thanks!). Amazingly enough they worked. The amp is still not utterly dead silent, but it's to the point where it's below the background noise level of my room (which is as close to silent as I can make it). I've also ordered some heatsinks for the 2SC3840s so I wouldn't have to worry about them getting too hot. With either input set though, I've been having some sporadic noise on the right channel. Sometimes it's a random noticeable "pfff", sometimes it gets stuck noticeably louder. The latter is usually solved by unplugging/replugging in the headphones. Very strange. Aside from an overlooked loose connection or a bad solder joint somewhere I'm not sure what it could be. Anyway please excuse my blurry photos.

I will make a few more The most time consuming part was all the design work, which is behind me now.

Test and tune on Saturday on the exact same course on a cooler day and I shaved 4 second off my time with some suspension, tire pressure and driving adjustment before the heavens opened for 4 hours and it generally turned to shit.
