I got one of the Amazon Chase cards a while back and I've been super happy with all the perks. BTW, if you need a pretty nice Mac interface/preamp, you can borrow my spare Metric Halo ULN-2 + dsp (2D card). I only use it for field work these days so I wouldn't miss it for a couple of months. Just ask. Duh,.. Just remembered that the ULN-2 is a firewire device. One of these days I'll upgrade it to 3D (usb-c and ethernet) for now, I use it with my 2012 MBP. But, if you can use it ask.

Serial data with an embedded clock (for example the NRZ used for SPDIF) is subject to a well known set of random and deterministic jitter mechanisms. Agilent make high end car priced gear to measure and characterise these in high speed data links - but lowly SPDIF is just as prone to these at a pedestrian data rate. And although it is true that Red Book CD's use a robust error correction code (Cross-Interleaved Reed Solomon) a SPDIF link uses a simple checksum.
