  1. Frustrating Morning: Bach: Goldberg Variations (Extended Edt.) Lang Lang 2020 I have listened to some Lang Lang and I have liked it - but this. It is played so slow that it is almost laughable, like a student learning to play. Example: Vs. I just had to stop after a while.. so...

  2. Nice progress, starcat. Some builders put LEDs on the other (tube) side... Also, putting battery 22K resistors on the tube side elevated half an inch makes it perfect for using clip leads when setting the voltage to 6.55V.

  3. As it was a per-album thing for me (and sometimes when I preferred Atmos it isn't Atmos itself, but I wanted the recede mids a little and balance out, course reverse that and sometimes I preferred stereo to bring out the mids, and of course some tracks are great in mono), I've turned it Always On and going to try for a few weeks and see how I adjust with a variety of phones. Problem being there aren't many Spatial Audio albums I want to listen to so I'll be stereo all the time and when listening on work laptops older OSs prevent it even being turned on. At this point it really reminds me of the iFi 3D+ implementation (which I like most of the time) at about three times the strength. That strength makes the preference more obvious one way or another. Apple usually launches 1G products/services with a bang and I really don't feel that way with the AirPods Max and specific Spatial Audio albums this round. We'll see. Anyone remember the Zenph "re-performances" with half stereo and repeated half binaural tracks? Those were the days. It lasted what a year?

  4. Phew, soldered some 50x LEDs... Checked the C3675 and A1468 for breakdown voltage. Will use the ones with the highest in the batteries. Are there any fakes of the C3381 and K246 and is there any special procedure for testing those? I mounted only 4 of the total 8 standoffs as the ones close to the front panel are in the way of the Stax connectors and the ones in the back are exactly where the Amphenol connectors are. 4 of them should be fine I think.

  8. That sounds awesome, Sam. I have had some wonderful coffee out of pour-overs. I use something similar, either V60, or Bodum’s copy of the Chemex, depending on whether I am making coffee for just me or for more: it’s my most commonly used method (try a Japanese-style iced coffee in it!). That sounds like really good coffee. I have a new local roaster’s on my counter. I freeze coffee once it has off-gassed enough for espresso, and this particular one was roasted a week ago. I’m looking forward to fiddling around for half an hour making manual espresso with it. I do that about twice a month: it’s just so much clean up. I revisited French Press when I saw the Hoffman Method. It makes a damned good cup. I’d suggested revisiting it too. edit: I really strongly suggest trying Japanese-style iced coffee. It’s amazingly good on a hot summer morning. This isn’t quite how I make it, but it’s a good starting point. https://www.seriouseats.com/japanese-style-iced-coffee

  9. I feel that they are like modern interpretations of those Audio Technica woodies with their quirky sound signatures, which can be a good or bad thing depending on your taste. I would definitely try to audition them if you can because they are not for everyone.

  10. Maybe there is a market for an enterprising head-fi-er, to not only re-master (re-eq?) your tracks but also to re-spatialize(?) your favorite tracks and sell them back to you?

  11. Where is everyone at on spatial audio? I think I'm done with it for now. Every time I turn it off I like the sound better on the traditional stereo mix. Apple sets spatial on by default when using AirPods or beats so maybe it will gain traction in a way binaural never could. At least for right now though I think it is more "gimmick" than improvement.

  12. Frustrating album Reflections Víkingur Ólafsson 2021 There is some brilliant playing, but there are some pieces that are so closely miked that you hear all the piano action and breathing! I'll take Glen Gould humming any day. Example:

  13. If the 2sc3381 and 2sk246 are the ones you got from me, then they are real. That said, I have seen fake 2sc3381.

  16. Looks awesome, ER! I'm so pleased I finally found a local roaster worth their salt. Fourth largest city in the U.S....you'd think it would not be that difficult. Anyhoo, I have been using a Chemex for a few years now after many a year with the French press. Have enjoyed the cleaner cup although it is hard to argue with all the raw oily goodness of the press. I am drinking an Ecuadorian Pillcocaja Typica Golden Honey. Love all the information provided by the roaster...he's a true gent interested in educating his consumers which I love. Probably TMI, but in case someone is interested following are but a few of the details provided: PRODUCER - Ana Maria & Nicolas Eduardo Crespo FARM - Pillcocaja COUNTRY - Ecuador REGION - Azuay VARIETAL - Typica LOT - #4 / 570 lbs PROCESS - Golden Honey DRYING - 20 days, 50% Shaded African Beds ELEVATION - 1700 masl HARVEST - August 2020 TASTING NOTES - Tropical fruits (papaya, banana), Acai berries, Sugar Cane, Chocolate otal roast duration: 9'20 Weight-Loss: 12.75% The special terroir of this Ecuadorian coffee makes it a very interesting coffee to roast with a lot of carbohydrates to create a complex profile. Additionally, in the golden honey process, we have more sweetness and texture available to be developed. For this reason, we started with a lower charge temperature and reach our crack time after 8 minutes with only 1'20 minutes of development post-crack. This gives us a balanced cup of coffee with sweet berries and ripe banana notes, a berry-like acidity, a creamy body, and a chocolaty lingering finish. https://www.memlicoffee.com/product-page/ecuador-pillcocaja-lot-4-typica-golden-honey HS
