Curious also. For those in Bay Area or passing through before July 21st, the comprehensive Irving Penn exhibit at the de Young is outstanding. Saw yesterday. Couple snaps with M9M & LLL 35 8-element. Accompanying book. There's also a related Fashioning San Francisco: A Century of Style show one floor up.6 points

Completely agree, though I did enjoy and finish Andor. I think it's likely because it's the "hardest" scifi they have attempted. Broadly, I have a hard time suspending disbelief watching Star Wars of any kind. Whole planets speak the same language, or have one notable geographic feature, or support billions of people but merit no more than a throwaway line of dialogue. I always think "what kind of tax revenue must the Empire be collecting to put together yet another moon-sized gun array" and then wondering how such a thing would be structured. I appreciated the smaller scale, the care they put into worlds that didn't interact with the properties from the good movies, and the sort of general Kafka-esque bureaucratic capriciousness it gave to the Empire. My favorite Marvel property was "Jessica Jones" for the same reason. But yeah, the first two movies were good and nothing else since approaches them. They are fundamentally kids movies and I'm fundamentally an adult. I have found new passions and it's a disservice to drag Star Wars along with me.4 points

Heh. @grawk, so I'm talking to Joe and he mentions something about dropping 2800$ on tires before this SmokieGT Rally he was on, and after 5 days needed another set I'm like "wait, that wasn't late April, was it?" "Yeah" *goes and digs up this pic* "Friends of yours, by any chance?" "Yep. That was part of our crew." Here's a shot from Road Atlanta: Was hoping that was the same white car, but don't think it is. Few of them got together Some a little more special than others. https://www.smokiesgt.org/4 points

Picked up a Yashicaflex LM with working light meter. And a Bronica 645 ETRSi body and metering finder. Will be a while before I have Bronica shots, as I don’t have lenses yet, but I think that will work. The LM has a much brighter finder, supposedly, than my Yashicaflex C, with better optics on the taking, and a ground glass with a grid. It was $100, so I’m not to worried if it’s no better than what I have.2 points

People told me this was the best Star Wars thing Disney has done. I don't know. I tried. Made it four episodes in before giving up. There is a magic to the first two movies that nothing else in the franchise has really been able to recapture for me . This just isn't a sci-fi world I want to spend part in anymore, which does make me sad.2 points

Marathoned the first two seasons after many years of being away. Still some of the best writing.2 points

The Chronic by Dr. Dre (1992) https://album.link/i/1668460963 Example: Just the intro alone is better than anything from the Kendrick/Drake beef. And then you throw in 'The Day The Niggaz Took Over', and 'Nuthin' But A "G" Thang'.1 point

If you're insistent on shooting film and want EXIF, you could search for a Canon EOS-1V or Nikon F6. The 1V can store exposure info for "100 rolls of 36 exposure film" and the F6 can save information for <mumble> exposures to CF with the MV-1 card reader. All of these things are 20 or so years old now and don't grow on trees. In 2009 or so, I had a chance to get a clean EOS-1V, 85mm F/1.8 and 200mm F/2.8L (the "L" no one remembers) for like $1100 shipped. I didn't buy it and have been kicking myself ever since. Of course, given what I've done in the last 15 years, I'd probably have spent $30 on batteries for the 1V and put 2 rolls of film through it. Such is life.1 point

I'm thinking about getting a decent inkjet printer to print my own digital images. Mostly black & white, occasionally color. primarily smaller prints, probably as large as 8.5x11, at least for now. Not sure of quantities, or frequencies at this point yet. I do have a local shop that still develops film & has digital printing capability, but my few recent dealings with them have not been too favorable. Looking for quality a few notches above Walgreens, as well as having more control over the process. Also looking to jumpstart my digital darkroom skills (very hobbyist-level, mind you) & see where it goes. I like giving prints as gifts too. Epson seems to have the pro edge (I am particularly drawn to their models with "Advanced Black and White Photo Mode" tech), with Canon running second, I think. But even within each of their lineups, each model has different ink tech & the numbers of cartridges they use, so the best stuff doesn't really trickle directly downstream. Does anyone here print their photos? If so, what's your setup & flow?1 point

First weekend up in our Maine Condo, nice to be up here. As always, set up the stereo (all-in-one with Orchard Pecan Pi + board and Purifi amp modules -> Kaya S12 speakers). This is the second all-in-one like this I modded, did a cleaner job on the back of this one....no panel scratches. Also a lovely picture of Nubble Lighthouse in York Maine with the Northern Lights; not my pic. But one of Karen and my favorite places!1 point

Not sure if this belongs here, but last night I watched a movie about Jimmy Page, The Edge and Jack White: It Might Get Loud. Published in 2009 and made in 2008. Can't believe I missed this one. Very much enjoyed hearing about the individuals and getting to see them jam was pretty cool. Jack White...special. LOL. HS1 point

I really want to hear those OMA monitors as well, and for good reason... In the mid 80's I bought a pair of ESS AMT 1D speakers. Those speakers had the Heil Air Motion Transformer tweeter/midrange units. They are the best top end/midrange I've yet heard. The issue was the bass. It was a bit wooly and loose. I've always wanted someone to design a speaker using those AMTs, but with a better low end.1 point

I definitely think Steve needs to dream bigger on the audio dream system. PS Audio is not expensive or exclusive enough. 😁 The OMA Imperia was the first thing that came to mind when I saw this thread. JP and I had a demo at OMA and I think it is the best speaker system I have ever heard. Huge presence but intimate sound. I wish I had a bigger house and could justify the cost, for example by actually listening to my OMA Mini system more often...1 point
