  1. Vinyl-focused listening bars inspired by ones in Japan are opening across New York, attracting audiophiles and city dwellers looking for a respite from the cacophony outside their doors. https://www.nytimes.com/2024/12/30/style/vinyl-listening-bars.html?unlocked_article_code=1.mE4.DoPV.rDeIpFwipn7h&smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare&tgrp=on. 2. Covid is no joke. My mother is in her 80s and frail. I'm 50 and ...sturdy. She went to the ER and got prescribed Paxlovid. It appears to help, but some of the side effects are a bit rough. I'm fully vaxed and in fact recently boosted. I'm no longer feverish, but far from well. I suspect this is a new strain that has yet to be named (remember the ominous sounding Omicron Variant?) Also the heating system is still not fixed, but after my mother went to the ER I opened the mechanical closet and yelled at it. Then I turned it off and on again and it's been making heat since. In the 40K universe I'd be a tech priest.

  6. I don't know, Ric, I'm just an old grump wondering if his whole life has any sense after 40 years caring for people that most likely don't deserve it. I'm not "judging" Ann Hamilton's art or 40 years of career, just her idea of taking pictures from an in-mouth camera. But I swear that one of the things that I find most difficult these days is not being judgmental. Even not being opinionated it too hard.

  7. swt61, Those cheesecakes look AMAZING!!! I bake once a year these days. Cookies for the folks on my block. This year I went with white chocolate macadamia. I baked some proper looking "cakey" ones, but the ones that really sold looked like this...I kept the dough less cold before putting them on the pan. Folks like the more caramelized edges I'm guessing. HS

  8. Met Al, Claire, Sophie, Julia and Kaki at The Marshal Store for lunch. The oysters Rockefeller were pretty good, as was my pulled pork sandwich. Then off to Drake's beach to watch the Elephant seals. Also saw some large Elk near there, and a quite large Coyote. Then onto Pt. Reyes for a bit of browsing and buffalo ice cream and natural soda float.

  9. A Jerry Lewis movie filmed in 1972 was so bad (in a dark way) that it was never released. He donated the unfinished movie to the Library of Congress with the stipulation that it would not be released until 2024. “This movie is so drastically wrong its pathos and its comedy are so wildly misplaced, that you could not, in your fantasy of what it might be like, improve on what it really is.” ‘The Day the Clown Cried’: Why Jerry Lewis’s Lost Holocaust Film Is Still Lost

  12. I skew that chart considerably. Country and Classic Rock are two of my favorite genres. And I'm a very liberal Democrat.
