  2. I picked up tickets to see Los Lobos and X at the Ryman this fall. Unless I sneak to some show there before then, it'll be my first trip to the church of country music (and to see a punk band, no less)

  3. Got to see my favorite band the Chameleons once again. Met up with a few elderly folks like myself, and our conversations were focused around our ailments as old-folks-discussion SHOULD be! 😄 The band were also wrapped in dark Goth bands - they were the 3rd of 4 bands. I don't mind a little bit, but even the two opening bands got to be too much for me. After the Chameleons played, I went home; the headliner (Twin Tribes) are VERY Goth and not what I cared to hear. I e-chatted with one of the other cranky old people yesterday, and he and I agreed that the sound and the band's performance was not quite as good as it has been in the past. But I also watched the set with another couple, and while we agreed the sound wasn't the best we just let loose and thoroughly enjoyed the show. Hit the "fuck I needed this" spot after a bunch of crazy work weeks. Also got to meet someone I've known through FB; s/he (she is transitioning to he) was running the merch table. So despite not being perfect, was a great time and just what the doctor of sanity ordered!

  4. I wanted to post an update from the weekend earlier, but I was waiting for the group photo... Needless to say it was a great day. There was a lot of driving for myself, I just live too far away from everything these days. But the weather was perfect and it was a great day of sharing and having a lovely walk around the lake. Engaging people along the way to share our mission. We invited two other organizations, Living with Conviction, and Civil Survival, to help share their stories and support as well. We ended up just under $13,000! from our $15k goal. Thanks again and with much gratitude to all. Cheers - Mikey

  8. First, I want to say many humble thanks for all of your support in the past. Our non-profit, Communities of Belonging, are so happy to be having our 4th annual Walk for Belonging as a part of the national Second Chance Month. April 26, 2025, Green Lake, Seattle... As with many non-profits, we are always struggling with funds to keep things running. And sad to say that our mission is under direct attack. Grants that have helped us in the past have been cut or eliminated. Our message of "We Believe in a World where Everyone Belongs" is not supported under the current administration. We have an opportunity to open another house, and are actively working on how we can support the trans community. We are truly trying to remove all the barriers that we can to help those that need as second chance in life. My team page and walk info on GiveButter - https://givebutter.com/WalkforBelonging2025/michaelmaddock Happy to talk about our mission and any questions you may have about our organization... Cheers and thanks, Mikey

  11. I'm so sorry Steve. My condolences - it is tough. Very tough. May she rest in peace. My Mam went quickly at age 85 in 2008 after breaking her hip in our hallway. I still miss her.

  15. Thanks again everyone for the support this year in making this happen (NFLO). We are at 71% of our $15,000 goal, crossing the $10 mark, which is amazing. We finally got the t-shirts in for the participants, and we are making all the last minute plans for the walk on Saturday. Of course I live very far away on a volcano, so it will be an all day affair for myself. Just wanted to give this thread one more bump for anyone who was looking to support us. Many thanks and cheers - da mikey.. https://givebutter.com/WalkforBelonging2025/michaelmaddock { hoping for good weather }

  18. Got some sleep, however, the tickle I started feeling in the back of my throat yesterday afternoon has now developed into a full blown sore throat, cough, congestion and dull ache/tightness behind my eyes. Hard to describe. I really wanted to stay occupied with work. Maybe the upside is this cold/covid/whatever will make me sleep. I always knew that losing my Mom would be hard to handle. I'm a pretty independent guy, but we had a very special relationship, as so many men do with their Moms. Especially gay men. Dogs are amazingly sensitive. Maki is very aware of my sadness, and will not leave my side. She usually occupies herself playing in the yard, checking in on me every now and then. Last night she was glued to me. This morning she hasn't even gone out to pee. She is a comfort.

  19. Longest day at work ever! Got 20 minutes of sleep last night. And of all of the days, two employees almost went blow to blow with each other right before opening. The cashier screamed for me to come break them up. Reasoning did nothing, they wouldn't let up. I literally had a melt down. Fell to my knees sobbing. They stopped then, probably wondering WTF! Anyway, I made it through the day. Hoping for some sleep tonight.

  20. That's my Mom Last night I called my Mom because I hadn't heard from her in a few weeks. She sounded terrible and told me she'd been sick for a few weeks. It was obvious that she was having a hard time talking, so I told her that I loved her, and that I'd check on her tomorrow. 15 minutes later my Brother called to tell me that she passed. I told him that I had just hung up from talking to her. He said that makes sense. He's convinced that she was holding on until she could talk to me. I'm so fucking glad that I called when I did!
