  1. Our year-old cat Joost was missing for the last week. It's pretty common for indoor/outdoor cats in the country to wander for longer periods than this so we weren't all that worried. We were surprised when our friends posted a "found cat" listing with a photo of Joost on Facebook yesterday. They live about five miles away from us. Needless to say he is happy to be home.

  2. I'm only in Beijing for a few more months, then D.C. for a bit. I go to Turkey for a full tour in July. Meanwhile, this is what I'm missing

  7. Found an excellent outdoor store in Vermont called the Outdoor Gear Exchange. An amazing amount of gear, I just wish I could carry more back on the plane. Ended up getting a Summerlite WM bag, a bunch of clearance ExOfficio stuff and some compression bags.

  8. Trekking back from Colorado to Beijing today, after nearly two months off. Kora's Chinese visa did not come through in time, so She and Ann Marie will follow in a few days. I thought it would liberating to be briefly liberated from the responsibilities, but I just miss my baby a lot. Kids are real weird.

  9. Shelly, First, color me jealous of that rig. Just. So. Much. Awesome. Second, about the worst that would probably happen is some mild discoloration of the underside of the shelf. But that would probably take a lot of time. When I had a similar lack of space at work the underside of my shelf got slightly browned, but no worse and that was with 8-10hrs of continuous runtime. The 6SN7 is also not pumping out that much heat. If the data sheet I found is correct it's probably only trying to deal with ~4W (6.3V/.6A heater) but don't hold me to that. My DIY skills are eroding with time and it's been a while since I applied much, if any critical thinking to stuff like this.

  10. My son did a camping trip in NC last weekend. They froze due to lack of proper equipment but had a great time. I'm thinking its time for Jp, Raffy and me to start putting together our backpacking gear for a spring trip. My son is likely to do a Goruck Navigator course in April if he gets an 18x special forces contract, which is a 3 day backpacking trip to learn land navigation and other stuff in preparation should he get the contract. I would love to do it with him but I'm not going to ready for something that intense but would consider an east coast trip or possibly west coast led by Peter or both.

  12. Yup, the 6SN7 is a low power tube so I wouldn't worry about it.

  16. Just to be safe, I think you should send them to me and I will evaluate them for the next two months with regular measurements using Mary's stethoscope. Ok, you got me.

  20. More information here. BTW, each album appears to be on its own microSD card, then wrapped in a jewel case, that when stacked on the included stand can make different shapes. Or rearrange the order to spell 'NOTE LUBE'.
