That's what I was thinking too. But I started checking out a site for electronic music composers http://www.idmforums.com/ and there's some small interest in releasing original music on cassette. In fact, it seems like there are a good number of places you can get your music produced on cassette (particularly in the UK). The cost of producing small runs is ultra low and their product will stand out. Maybe it's just a gimmick or a passing fad, but I like to see people gather around niche products and ideas. So, I think it's mostly about fun and nothing else.
  3. Very sorry to hear Wayne.
  4. I don't know where the hell you're getting these Dusty, but they never fail to get a laugh out of me. I'm can't say I proud of that but there it is.
  5. Who Knew our Steve (ironbutt) was a true hipster That's what I've been tryin' ta tell you guys for years!
  6. If I had a Subaru with a Yak on the rack, it would be an alternative identity that would be tough to resist. Get a cheap crib in the artsy part of town and buy a fake identity on the dark web.

Don't know about the Chameleons but it did my heart good to see that someone else on 'Case still subscribes to mailing lists too. Still belong to 6 or 8 or something (a few are all but dead).
  8. IMHO you need a "mat" of "Save the ..." stickers on the back!
  9. These were just released Sept. 18th and immediately sold out at most of the big sellers like Amazon. I believe the only overlap might be with the CD 10: Marcel Dupré - Saint-Saëns Organ Symphony since it features the Detroit Sym w/Paray. Tom seems to think that cd turned out particularly well in the Dupre set.
  10. Marc, you and other classical music fans should check out the new Marcel Dupre Mercury Living Presence releases. Some folks think it could be the best organ recordings from the golden age. The remastering was to get better fidelity rather than changing the sound of the original masters. The production was supervised by Tom Fine (son of Wilma and Robert). http://www.importcds.com/marcel-dupre-remastered-edition/028947883883
  11. Loving streaming from the Arrow stages last act "Big Star's Third". Really dig the planned chaos of these "all star" bands. Thanks Mikey!!!!!
  12. As a Grand Master of Belated Birthday Greetings, I thank you all!
  13. Thanks guys! I celebrate a week early when I treat myself to the jazz festival every year. It never disappoints! And I always forget to change it in my profile but this one means I've survived 61 years! WooHoo!
  14. Loved Buss Compression Dusty! I hope the "burning spider" story gets some interviews with the guy. He and what's her name Davis (Kentucky clerk) could start a country of their own!
  15. Happy B Day ya big lug! Kinda disappointed the Pope didn't stick around to bless our collective birthdays but he is getting a bit silly in his old age. So, have a fantastic day Wayne.

That's a great deal. At least Amazon plainly states that the regular price is $99 after a year. It really pisses me off when I have to hunt or beg for that info when I join at an intro price!

I really enjoyed it. Being based on a true story, shouldn't make a difference but it did for me. Well crafted and moving IMHO.
  18. Very cool Grahame! I'm surprised how cheaply they can be had.

I finally finished the first season. It never disappointed. Looking forward to another one!
  20. Blindspot seemed pretty formulaic (but what isn't?). Just didn't hold my attention very well. I'll give it a few more tries though. Of course, I'm totally hooked on The Strain so what do I know?
  21. Happy B Day Jim!
  22. Tyler, why guess when you know what an easy guy Craig is to deal with. [email protected]
  23. RIP Yogi! There are tons of tributes across the interweb but I thought this one was excellent. http://m.mlb.com/atl/video/topic/41109544/v496973283/eight-great-moments-from-no-8-yogi-berras-career/?c_id=atl

Got back from the Monterey Jazz Festival Monday night. One of the best years IMHO. Everything from cocktail jazz with Monty Alexander Trio to an avant garde commissioned piece from trumpet player Ambrose Akinmusire. The festival started with that commissioned piece and while it didn't make the traditional jazz fans happy, I was like a pig in shit. A trio with Chick Corea, Brian Blades (drums) and Christian McBride (bass) totally killed. I think they're touring so don't miss em! Friday night ended with a huge tribute to Jaco Pastorious. Way too many folks to name in this jazz orchestra setting but it was great to see players from Weather Report and all the other groups that he played with including Felix Pastorious (his son) who played a pretty mean electric bass himself. Saturdays highlights included a great set by Trombone Shorty and this years Monterey Festival on Tour band (Gregory Clayton (piano), Ravi Coltrane (saxes), Nickolas Payton (trumpet), Joe Sanders (bass), Justin Brown (drums). I'd forgotten how much I love Payton's horn. The night ended with an awesome set from The Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis (hmm, didn't think of it till now but it was kind of a trumpet lovers wet dream,.. I didn't have a chance to hear him but Terrance Blanchard and E Connection also played) Sunday afternoon had a big Escovedo Family set. Bela Fleck and Chick Corea amazed the crowd and Chris Botti payed the bills. My favorite discovery was a kinda rockabillyish singer that has bits of Janis Joplin in her voice (nice to see her on the same stage that Janis made her name). Here's a video of Nikki Hill at a tiny blues venue.
