1. THAT is incredible! I think wherever I've been or seen, they AIM for people if they're too close to the streets And yes, we have plow service; he came and cleared the driveway bottom out (it reached almost 2 1/2 feet!).....but I'll still need to go out and push around a few more inches that came down. Lots of phunn.....
2. I'm a few towns away from Haj and Nate, we've got a large mess. At least 20" I'd say, and still snowing (though certainly lighter now). We have a plow service, but it doesn't get everything, and we had my son out there with us shoveling a bit. We left the big snowplow pile at the end, our plow guys should be coming around again. Out snow wasn't as wet and heavy as I was hearing though.....not super fluffy, but certainly have shoveled a LOT worse.
3. I ALMOST bought this for a neighbor's 50th BDay party, but instead tried something I had heard of but not tried: Dalwhinnie 15 year. Not a Scotch afficianado by any means, but it was pretty good IMO, and two others who partook (?) agreed. One person didn't like it as much as a few others he tried.
4. Nice..... I always wanted to hear this CD77 unit. I used to subscribe to Thorsten Loesch's mail/chat list, was a great resource...he was very generous with his thoughts and designs.....
5. Had a 50% off at Borders, couldn't resist.....
6. Too many Aardvark's not enough baguettes! And a very happy birthday, too!
7. ^^^ Good on NYI, such an underdog team, I almost always root for them if the Bruins aren't playing them. It's funny to see the reactions to great players like Crosby and Stamkos. Maybe it's the media hype, maybe it's the reputation for whining. But outside of Pitt, it seems many a folk don't like Sidney, and tons of folks like - or at least strongly respect - Stamkos. Ovechkin is another one, but I think he has a lot more detractors outside of Washington.
8. That's daring, for sure...... I always liked this sign in Boston
9. Didn't George Carlin design a component under that company name? As far as Schiit goes, I also have the Asgard, but haven't turned it on in many a month. Am likely going to sell it. Good, perhaps VERY good.....but not quite great. At the price, though, a real winner I'd say.
10. Only with a non-switching power supply Can't remember where I read it, but some poeple were trying various power conditioning on PC's, and trying to measure if there was improvements in things like read rates on CD, seek times on HDD, etc.... I think they didn't come up with anything conclusive, though there may have been some differences......
11. I think Stretch forgot to mention the giant chess game he played....those ARE Rooks in the last pic, yes? Jealousy abounds here, too, looks awesome.... Also love that Santa "generation" pic, too.... Wayne, love both your suits, and your mom makes the perfect Mrs. Claus! I'm writing checks today, Chanukkah celebration at my mom's. She held off so all the kids are back from college and we could all be together, very nice stuff. Then tomorrow, my son's 12th birthday. He'll get to play as much XBox as he wants!
12. I've certainly noticed this on the less expensive noise-cancelling phones I've tried (been a few years, though, so technology may be better). I had this odd sensation of being surrounded by a cloud when I used the NC function. A little bit of added hiss, a lot of "consistent" noise vanished, but murky drips of "inconsistent" sound sometimes leaked thru at low levels. Didn't bother me when playing music, but when I had a long delay and put them on to help let me rest, I found it odd to adjust.
13. Thanks, all! To be even MENTIONED in the same sentence as Dave Brubeck is an honor so I don't mind a belated at all. A nice time was had, even though I was fighting a bit of a cold.....
14. Happy Birthday....hope you get to spend it with family, but get some "me" time too.
15. Both Grinderman albums..... Need to listen more to #2, but I think I may like the first better than the second.....TBD.......
16. I have it only on vinyl, as well as a couple 12" singles/ep's. Realizing I had a gap in CD's, I just ordered the Dark Continent/Call of the West reissue CD. And I agree, some great stuff, including Stan Ridgway's post-WOV material.
17. It's an 80's one-hit wonder day....one of my favorite bands, Wall of Voodoo The Index Masters (includes a great version of "Ring of Fire") And Call of the West (with "Mexican Radio")
18. The Harley Davidson company is the subject of many "Management Case Studies" at business schools. Between the quality program they started, and the marketing they achieved, they showed that it was possible to do what some of the audio high end wants to do: differentiate themselves as quality, made in America merchandise, that people are willing to pay a premium for. And not just because it's American, but because it's GOOD, and has a certain true status associated with it. Looking at the high end audio market, and even then the subset niche of high end headphones, it's certainly understandable why Headroom of old couldn't continue the way it did. It would have been great if the market had the continued demand that Harley's engender; at least enough to keep them afloat. Aaron, I had read that the manufacturing in India would be primarily for overseas demand. So I'm not so perturbed over that if true. But it DOES seem to smear the legend a little bit..... I look forward to what Tyll comes up with next. If I can, I'll support him with my money (of course, if I WANT what he sells ). And I agree with Nate: I wish no ill-will to Headroom as they are now, but won't rush to give them my business. The importer of Harbeth is my favorite local dealer, Fidelis A/V in NH. Might be worth cancelling your Headroom order and contacting them directly....Walter Swanbon is the owner....another passionate audio person!
19. Even as a Bruins fan, who they beat in a SO the other night, I enjoyed watching that Blues team. Oshie is a mini-beast! He took on Zdeno Chara and put him to the ice with a nice check. And he took David Krecji out as well. Horrible to see the concucssion on DK, but it was a very clean hit and cannot fault Oshie at all; a classy interview after the game as well. He's one of those players you'd love to have on your team. The rest of the team is playing real upbeat, fast, inspired hockey. Good luck to them this year.....
20. Friends don't let friends use Frends. Duuuuuuude
21. Wow, how cool! I have been off and on recently a site called Remember The Eighties, they have some interesting info and updates on that decade. Oddly, I didn't remember seeing the Feelies album news, though I knew they reformed......
22. I don't know, butte with the "e" reminds me of a faux hugh end butt. Kind of like "Shoppe" is a title to just alow a Shop to charge more for its wares.
23. Amaya Laucirica - Early Summer Real nice listen, if anyone likes music like Mazzy Star. Similar voice, but music is a little folkier/poppier/psychedellic. Very entertaining!
24. It's funny, I think I'll be cheering for Montreal more this year again....as a Bruins' fan, that's nearly blasphemy! But they are just a fun team to watch. Hopefully Price will keep up the good work, and ignore the dumber of the fans and media. As for the Leafs, I expected them to be better this year. Yes, the fans deserve it, they are some of the most hard-core (excuse me) in hockey. But, I'd still prefer if they tanled one more year; Bruins have their 1st round draft pick coming up
25. If the cups are made with carbon, we can call it the CO2.....
