  1. Little bumpage.... Just picked one of these up from my local dealer. Floor model, new condition but had some playing time. Silver, too Plugged it into a second system, comprised of a Panny DVD S47 player, the Rega, a Radii EL84 triode integrated amp, to my Silverline Preludes. Good amount of detail, while still slightly warm sounding (and it's not just the tube amp). Have swapped around the filter settings a bit, haven't got a good grip on them yet, may need to put it into my headphone system to better judge. I like the music this is making, though; it's definitely not going back! Hope to get some time this weekend, otherwise it's not until we come back from a trip next week.
  2. And Mario the whiner complains it wasn't enough..... I forgot that Cooke was out on suspension, too bad. Would have been nice to see him get more of what's due to him. He did a fair bit of borderline cheap crap to the Isles....just as he's done to many a team.
  3. Nice, Vicki....coincidentally, I was listening to the below earlier this morning.
  4. Yeah, Carey got the better of Tim once Tim grabbed the wrong sleeve ! After Tim slipped/Carey took him down, they got up, and you could see them smiling. I actually liked that, kind of a respect thing, for each other and for the fact that neither of them are fighters.
  5. Holy cow! I watched some highlights on TSN.CA.....good for the Isalnders!! Was Matt Cooke manhandled in any of them? Please say yes..... Reminds me of the Jim Carr character from Slapshot: "Everyone's on their feet yelling, 'KILL! KILL! KILL!' THIS....IS.....HOCKEEEEYYYYYYY" Love these rivalries
  6. Really great to see a bunch of nice things, my congrats to all as well. I celebrated my last day at my current job (yesterday) by making homemade pancakes with my son this morning. HIS recipe I just substitued wheat flour instead of bleached white. Tonight, my wife takes ME out to celebrate! Where to go, where to go.......
  7. And in another Slapshot-influenced game, the Bruins and Habs played some good old tyme hockey last night! Habs have had the Bruins' number all year, so this was a winner; two of the best defensive teams had an 8-6 score. Over 120 minutes of penalties. Some ugly stuff by both teams, as well as the usual ref stupidity all around. But it was just SO 70's it was a joy to watch!
  8. Bummer, Haj, hope it gets better.....I went to a decent Orthopedist (?) in Westford off Rt 40 (also offices in downtown Lowell) if you're interested and it comes to that. Hope it doesn't though..... I sent my "Goodbye and thanks" email today to over 200 people I support or work with. Mixed emotions - glad to be getting out of a "toxic" environment, but going to miss a lot of folks..... Have lunches with a bunch of folks the next 3 days
  9. Yeah, it's too bad the Bruins only play Dallas once or twice a year.....they've got this amazing rivalry going so it seems! Reminds me of the movie Slapshot.....need to go watch that again.....
  10. Sorry to hear that, too....do you have alternates? Hope it only gets better from here. I gave notice earlier this week, and today the word spread like wildfire. I got some amazing emails that just swelled my ego big time. My favorite: "...we're all very, very sad.....you were a shining light....a beacon in the darkness of IT.....sigh....you will be greatly missed" Wow.....I'm a beacon of light
  11. I got a frantic call from the wife early last night, she was stuck at the bottom of our driveway..... Couldn't reverse out, couldn't drive up. Apparently, the plows came around to widen the streets, and shoved frozen chunks of plow-poop into the end of our driveway. She thought she could blast through it, and ended up being almost perched on it. Neoghbors were trying to help dig her out, put stuff under the tires to grip, no luck up to the time I got home. It took two grown men plus a somewhat big kid to help push her out, then these awesome neighbors helped us clean the crap up. I am sofa king tired of this crap! But of course, don't ask me to move
  12. We got plowed, plus did some shoveling. I actually cleared out a large space in a couple areas, so I can put more snow there tomorrow And tonight....I get to send my resignation notice!
  13. That is SO much what it's all about! I was laid off in late 02/early 03 (on the books thru Jan), and for several months was able to work part time and spend a LOT of QT with my son. Some of the best days ever. I know the "sourness" well; that (and that's being VERY mild) is why I'm interviewing now. The good news is that the company told the recruiter they want me! It's a contract to perm situation, but I'm confident that I would convert if it's what I want. I need to negotiate first, though: either push for perm now, or push for a better hourly rate and pre-negotiate a salary if I do convert.... Exciting stuff!
  14. I think sometimes it's the tangental costs. The hours & days spent by committees DISCUSSING relatively useless agenda items add up to a huge waste of time, and sometimes (like here in MA) have been known to contribute to delays on other matters (like automatic parole denial for "career" criminals. A bill has been sitting in government hands for months or more, without any action until a cop got killed by a recent parolee).....
  15. I just had a decent second interview at a company that isn't a hell-hole If this goes well, I may have a choice between two good companies. Been reading up here, sorry to hear of the ailments, and hope all get well soon!
  16. Bummer, Wes, but must be done....... I've been keeping my eye out for a used one of these, and not surprised they aren't really available.... I saw the demo's on Audiogon, but that's still a little more than I can afford right now. I'm sure these are worth every penny, though, even with the price increase.
  17. 18 beers? Nice......a VERY happy birthday then!
  18. Took my 12-year old son out shopping for an Xbox 360 (250G) / K'nect / XBox Live year membership. Came home, set it up, connected, and I will not see him again for months... The nice part is, though, that he saved up the $ and is paying for half the hardware, and the full year membership to Live. Reks: sorry to hear about the day, unless you're truly good with the breakup; even if best, never easy. I know a few Jewish Yenta's if you want to meet a "nice girl"
  19. I love the first sentence: "the egg is the tits" Pro reviewers beware!
  20. 25th Anniversary Edition of Propaganda - A Secret Wish. One of my favorite debut's........
  21. I owned the Apollo for a while, and heard the Saturn at a dealer visit. Dusty is absolutely right, re:PRaT and (less) detail. But it isn't as bad as one thinks; the details were often there, but just a little deeper in stage, or softer in tone. Not a top to bottom balanced sound in some aspects, but quite enjoyable for listening, and always kept me involved with the music. Again, I'd like to see something on the filter options on this DAC. The Tone Audio review didn't get into them.....
  22. Happy Birthday.....! In your honor, I drank some port with your name on it last night
  23. This does look interesting, it also includes a series of filters that can be applied. I've tended to like Rega's "strive" to sound like analog with their digital gear, so indeed this holds promiose for me. Good small form factor, too. Oh, and they make it in silver, too
