  1. Oops, I misread your measurements as 7" high X 12-14" wide X 13.5" deep. Maybe you can push them together for a nice CC speaker?
  2. HAPPY BIRTHDAY REKS!!!!
  3. That is very easy to believe. I discovered how critical the pads were to Ortho design early on with the first Donut build, and some though I was full of I'm sure. Now with the SFI drivers, and all the custom builds going on it's common knowledge. My hobby fund is quite low ATM, I hope these don't go up in price before I can replinish the fund.
  4. I'm crossing my fingers that you're correct, however my TT was giving me the same issues when driven by the Beta22. I'll know if that's a TT issue or not later today. I'll have a much better idea about the Beta22 Saturday. This may definitely changes what we've discussed at any rate. PM on it's way.
  5. Well judging from the costs of most 300B monoblocks I've seen, I imagine I may go the Pass or Pass clone route. I've already heard from Marc about the F5, and it sounds interesting. All of my friends and neighbors aspire to the Bose Wave music system. Sheep following the herd. And no, not a decent CDP amongst them. Saturday will be here soon. I have an idea I'm going to try with my TT today, and if that works then I'll have a wonderful source. I'll keep you posted. Once I decide on the right spot it's doubtful I'll have need to move them much IMO. OK, The African Chant/Dungeon Torture Screams/Gay Pride Dance Beats Fusion Mix may require a different toe in. I'll let you know. That was another issue the seller had. He described them as very painful after 15 minutes. Although I'm a pretty big guy at 6'1" and 230 lbs., apparently I have a pretty small noggin, as most phones fit me without a lot of extension. This could possibly correlate to a lot of my decision making througout my life. The K1000 was very comfortable at the two hour mark for me.
  6. May I ask where those settings are? I seem to be prefering somewhere near the midpoint ATM. That may change with a better source, I'm not sure.
  7. Agreed, even with an iPod it's pretty damn impressive so far. Alison Krauss is always the deciding factor on new headphones for me, and she's sounding amazing. Vocals are just beautiful, maybe he listens to techno or something. I'll have to ask him about his music preferences. I'll know more about the Beta22 soon enough, but I've already been considering a recase at the least, So it's not a big concern, and I doubt it's a major issue.
  8. OK, I found a mini phono-dual RCA adapter. I'm running it straight out of the iPod headphone out, since my LOD seems to have a short. This is connected to an RCA input on my Consonance integrated amp, with the K1000 being driven from the speaker taps. It's not the optimal setup, but I'm finally getting a pretty clean sound. Sadly I'm starting to think I'm having some issues with the Beta22, but I'll know better once the CDP arrives. This is my first experience with the K1000 other than meet settings. It's too early for any firm impressions, and I'll need a much better source before any serious listening. That said however, I'm really loving the soundstage here. The bass is not that bad either. No worries there though, as I have two Onix UFW-10 subs that I could patch into the system once I get things worked out. The seller told me that the K1000 was way to sterile for him. He felt they weren't very musical. That had me a bit concerned, as I favor musicality over technical attributes most of the time. He said he much prefered the HD600. I own modded HD580s (basically the same phone) that I quite like, but even early on I can say without a doubt that I wouldn't qualify the K1000 as sterile and non musical. It's a very different presentation to be sure, but wholey enjoyable and musical to my ears. Can't wait 'til Saturday!
  9. Nice find Jeff!
  10. Need to shave first. Uh huh, yeah right.
  11. I knew you'd succumb to the temptation of the Apple! I rather like the lossles files too. I've got some Klipsch Image X10s coming soon to try out.
  12. I actually got my iPod Classic, and used an LOD w/mini phono, plugged the mini phono into a 1/4" phono adaptor, plugged the 1/4" phono adaptor into a 1/4" phono to two XLR adaptor, and plugged the two XLR plugs into my Beta22 input. Not surprisingly it was all but unlistenable. Too many adaptors and a far less than ideal source. Is it Saturday yet?
  13. I got home from work to find a box from the UK on my desk. Yippie! I hooked up the pig tail to my amps speaker taps, and plugged the 4 pin socket of the K1000 into that. Turned on my Beta22 and no sound. Hmmm let's see now, the amp seems to be working fine, the speaker adapter is hooked up right, what's missing? Oh yeah, maybe it's that thing that spins CDs that I just shipped out yesterday! My phono stage still has hum issues with my SUT, and the temporary phono stage I was using went tits up. So maybe selling my CD transport would have been better delayed a week or so. Well the new CDP is due to arrive Saturday. It's gonna be an eternity.
  14. I love kitchen remodels! Nice work!
  15. 72' Duster here. I was having the block bored at my local machine shop when I spotted a 426 Hemi complete with high stall B&M automatic trans, 671 roots blower and it was the twin distributer (2 sparkplugs per cylinder) racing motor. They were selling it for the cost of the work done on it. The guy couldn't pay, and the total cost was $2,500.00. I tried and tried to talk my Dad into letting me buy it. He never would relent. Now I understand that my 16 y.o. self + light bodied Duster + 1000 HP engine would have = disaster, but do you have any idea what that motor is worth today? Oh and for Pars... 340 block, ported and polished heads, 850 Holley, Edelbrock high rise manifold, Hooker headers, Accel distributer, 11-1 compression (kept blowing head gaskets) and a B&M automatic w/high stall torque converter.
  16. Happy Birthday!
  17. It looks as though Peachtree will also be releasing a stand alone Sabre DAC for $700.00 and a statement Sabre DAC with tube output and tube headphone amp for $1,500.00. I didn't see any release dates for them.
  18. Happy Birthday Steve!
  19. Musicality is more important to me than technical prowess. And I don't hear much over 15000 Khz. anymore anyway. The main cans in this system will be K1000.
  20. Thanks guys! It will probably be a while before I have the Buffalo, as naamanf and I are still waiting on TPA parts that may not be available anytime soon. How would you describe the Stage 3 mods sound signature? Would you call it a hot source? I'd call my Beta22 amp a fairly warm signature for SS, and I'm curious how the Stage 3 would be in my system. It still uses OpAmps in HDCD mode though, correct?
  21. Yes Sir. I picked it up for $450.00, so I couldn't resist. I have a PM into philodox, as he has the stage 2 modded unit. I'd like to know as much as possible about the sound signature with the Lundahl transformer based output in the modded units.
  22. I may get the Moon Audio Stage 3 mods, but I'll probably wait until my Buffalo DAC is built, because I'm guessing I'll prefer that.
  23. Smeggy understands very well that modding simply for modding, or monitary sake is not necessarily a move forward.
  24. That's definitely a better way to say it! Ack! I misspelled genius too! That must be a Freudian slip.
  25. I think he looks awesome!
