  1. My first LPs were a Christmas present, along with a really cool GE record player. They were Elvis : Aloha From Hawaii Via Satelite & The Chipmunks. That Alvin had me in stitches. My first download was Bloodrock : DOA off of Napster. It was a trippy, psychedelic oddity from my past.
  2. It's OK man, you're a guy...gear whoring is not only acceptable, it's expected. Besides some of us have been cut off from drooling over your purchases for far too long. Get to it!
  3. Happy Birthday!
  4. Now that I can understand. Thank you Sir!
  5. Probably a good idea to space it a bout 1/16" away from the heatsink. OK WTF is 4.875" in SAE? You're making me do math...I hate math! Shouldn't take long once the wood arrives. It'll need to sit overnight after the initial glue up though. How deep is the threaded post of the power switch? Will I need to mortice the back of the faceplate for it, or is it deeper than 3/4"? It's in the specs you sent, but I can't read that little print. I'm old remember? That perfed metal might work well for some vent holes I'm planning in the tops of some cases.
  6. Thank goodness it's not dorky looking or anything.
  7. Shall I mortice out the sides of the back of the faceplates so that the center will fill that slight recess between the heatsinks? If so I'll need the distance between the heatsinks, and the distance of the recess in SAE measurements. To the nearest 32nd would be fine. From just looking at the pic I'd guess it to be about 3/16", is that close? Those are seriously sweet looking cases Marc! Did you have that perforated aluminum anodized, or did you find it this way?

  9. You dissin' The Boss sucka?
  10. Happy Birthday!
  11. The thing I discovered about the Zapfilter though, is that it seems to impart it's own sound sig. on everything it's connected to. Not sure that's a bad thing, because it sounds good, but I'm wanting to hear another discrete output stage to judge. Good to see you over here Brian!

^ Is that the Statue of Liberty in the mushroom cloud?
  13. His name is fitting anyway.
  14. Billy, your ass is most likely still warm from where the Doctor slapped it.
  15. We get along great. I didn't sence any animosity. I agree with what's been said about Ray, and I think I was unclear about my meaning in my earlier post. Whether or not you like Ray's amps, I doubt anyone would argue that Ray provides good customer service and he doesn't run his customers through the ringer.
  16. Opamps killed my dog just for spite.
  17. Let me be clear that I only used Ray as an example of fanboyism. I too agree that Ray would never send something like this out. He's far too smart a business man to ever consider it. And I do believe that Ray wants to turn out a good product and provide good service. I believe that Ray does provide good customer service, and I make no comparison between he and Mikhail.
  18. Congrats! They seem to fit on the stand well too, yay. Experiment with toe in to find your sweet spot.
  19. BTW it goes without saying that if a completely new amp is built for Dan, and he may want a custom wood case or faceplate, or any item for the amp from wood, I would be very happy to supply it at no charge.
  20. Agreed. However at this point I'd say sending the amp back to Mikhail and hoping to see it again would be out of the question. If he's willing to fly out and repair it like he did for Tom, then I think it's fair to give him that chance. I still feel that he's grossly overcharged for his services, but that's a lost cause at this point I guess. Of coarse poor Dan has to make these decisions though.
  21. Well it looks pretty obvious that no woodwork will be needed, and you sure as hell don't want me soldering anything, so my wallet is in standby mode for whatever donation is needed. This is a great time to rally around Dan and get this taken care of. I love this place.
  22. Hope you get to go somewhere nice. I wasn't aware that you lived in Santa Barbara. That's a gorgeous town! I spent a week at the Montecito Inn in about '93, and I fell in love with SB.
  23. Why? You know more than I do then, I wasn't even aware that her guns shot bullets. I have a totally ridiculous prejudism against guns. It's got nothing to do with any moral issue whatsoever, and I'd never ask anyone to give up their firearms. I don't mind others having guns at all, but when I was 11 years old I wanted a bike for Christmas. My Dad wanted to get me a rifle just like he bought both of my older Brothers rifles for their 11th year Christmas presents. Nevermind that I was quite vocal about the fact that I didn't give a rats ass about ever owning a gun. My Mom did her best to try and persuade him to buy me the bike I wanted, but his machismo won out and I got a fucking rifle, and still had to walk wherever I went. I refused to ever fire that rifle. And 30 years later I gave it to my nephew, still unfired (is unfired a word?). Wow, I feel better now! Thanks for letting me rant.
