  1. Saw the replay last night too. Yowza that looked bad. Here is hoping he makes a quick and complete recovery. This happened to a pitcher on the A's last year too. He recovered and is now pitching for the D-Backs.
  2. One of the kings of non-computer SFX. RIP. From Monster's Inc.
  3. On the legal distinction between Terrorism and Mass Murder: http://blogs.wsj.com/law/2013/04/16/defining-terrorism-isnt-so-easy/?mod=WSJBlog As Obama has already called this an act of Terrorism so he must know something we don't.
  4. ^ And that one has since been sold back to Andy. I think one or two of the builds may have been "commissioned", so not sold in the strict sense but also no in use by the original builder. Of the 30, I wonder how many are in flawless operational condition?
  5. Not the most powerful file recovery tool, but I find it often does the trick. I once accidentally deleted my entire music collection and this program saved it. Plus, hard to argue with free. http://www.piriform.com/recuva
  6. Tyll's got a pair, right? I wonder how they measure backwards.
  7. Not exactly confidence inspiring. See this picture: From page 3 of this article: http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9237727/How_big_is_the_sound_of_music_?taxonomyId=19&pageNumber=1
  8. My pair just came in this afternoon. I'm gonna have to agree with Spritzer on this one. Just like you'd expect, tonally they are as fantastic as ever. While they aren't able to keep pace with the big boys when it comes to detail, punch, and technicalities, boy do they ever hit the nail on the head with the tonality. Smooth, with a tiny bit of warmth. You could listen to these all day. They'll make a great headphone to keep around the office.
  9. Hate to revive a zombie thread, but Tyll's long awaited HD580/600/650 review needed to show up here somewhere. http://www.innerfidelity.com/content/very-important-sennheiser-hd-580-hd-600-and-hd-650 I went out and reordered an HD600 after I read this. The 600 was my first high-end headphone and the nostalgia factor along with your review/videos were just too much. I really need to work on the whole "will power" thing.
  10. The fact that both the PS4 and the upcoming XBox are going to be x86 based platforms can mean nothing but good things for the future of PC gaming. Currently the PC now accounts for only about 5-15% of the sales of AAA titles, thus leading to the current situation where developers targeted the XBox 360 as the lead platform and then ported from there. The focus on the last generation console hardware was clearly dragging down a lot of the games ported over to PC. Now that porting will be an order of magnitude simpler, I think (hope) we are going to see more and more games where the PC is the lead platform and the next gen consoles are the ports. Having just put together a monster PC, I have high hopes for the future of the PC as a gaming platform. Crysis 3 is absolutely stunning when maxed out at 60fps and quite fun to play to boot. I dl'ed SimCity last night and from the few hours I was able to play I can already tell that its going to be a ton of fun as well. The kind of graphics and smooth-as-butter gameplay you can get on a PC is an incredible upgrade over the current generation of consoles. It's a shame it doesn't show up better in the (compressed) YouTube video comparisons, because the difference really is night and day.
  11. ^ Give Justin a call and see what he can do for you, natch.
  12. In that case I'll have my fingers crossed for you!
  13. I'm also glad to see you got this resolved. So, does the RAM you wanted to add work in the replacement?
  14. So when you pulled the apple stock dimms and dropped in the new ones what happened?
  15. You'd think the Ivy Bridge iMac (presumably Z77 based) would be able to take any DDR3 Ram up to 1600mhz. Too bad Apple locks you out of the bios leaving you no way to check.
  16. Was it this part? "We don't base the design on some interpretation of the market needs or potential."
  17. Justin is exhibiting, right? Wait... don't see his name on the list.
  18. So I'm guessing we can probably count out Voltron and Mikey as well. Bummer.
  19. Who did you call? Your local store or the national number? Might as well give it a shot and see what happens
  20. A worthy choice, Monkey. I bought mine the 24th of January so I don't think I'm eligible to trade back in. Bummer.
  21. So thats 3 of us. Plus Purrin and Particleman makes 5. Anyone else?
  22. http://www.head-fi.org/t/644426/sf-bay-area-meet-on-sunday-february-17-2013-the-one-which-is-really-going-to-happen Who all from HC is going?
  23. Well, in case you change your mind I'm sure Greg (horio) or I would happily forgo brining a source in lieu of using your turntable. If not, then maybe next time we have a mini-meet.
