Sound-wise, any of the JFET options are preferred. If you can find them, the Toshibas would probably be preferred (2SJ / 2SK parts). I have used the Linear Systems LSK489 / LSJ689 and didn't notice a difference from the Toshiba devices, but I have read that some prefer the Toshiba. The BJT devices (2SA/2SC or the THAT part) to me don't sound as good. Not bad, but not as good. And that is with 10K pots. I think the 2SA / 2SC sounds a little better than the THAT part, but not up to the level of the JFETs.

When I look at the KBP201G on mouser.at, it shows 429 available (same as Mouser US)?

How about 621-KBP201G (Mouser PN). Haven't tried it but same specs. These bridge rectifiers are common parts and shouldn't be a problem to replace. Also a Rectron MDA201G would be another one to look at. 2A 100V bridge rectifier in an appropriate case/footprint and pinout.

This post from Søren in the Circlotron thread is useful for testing a GRHV. EDIT: Per Soren, note that these instructions are for the Circlotron, so differ from a GRHV somewhat. For the initial check, I was getting 0.5mA; Soren said maybe 1mA. For the 2nd CCS, I was getting 1.4mA. These will depend upon your particular DN2540s. The current limiting CSS he notes is not applicable on the GRHV, so ignore that portion. My boards both worked fine. The paralleling of the gain resistors (2 x 390K for a 400V GRHV) worked quite well. I put a 100K in parallel with the series string for a regulated output of ~55Vdc. Make sure you use a variac for this to limit the input voltage.

We had a Fry's in Downers Grove (Chicago suburb). We still have a Micro Center, also in Downers Grove I believe. It seems to be doing well.

I managed to get some C2M1000170D from Rochester Electronics (part of Arrow or Allied?) awhile back, but they are out as well now.

They looked like they were going out of business for at least the last 2 years... Strange store, but kinda fun to go to. Shit for electronics components though. Lots of NTE. I did buy soldering equipment from them though. Hakko stuff in particular. And some test leads.

Thanks. I already have the installer. I've tried that link before, and when you go to it and try to download, it wants to open iTunes (of all things), then says the requested item is not available in the US store. Probably doing something wrong, but at any rate, already have a Mojave installer.

Thanks for the input guys. This Mini can run Catalina, but apparently not Big Sur, so it has started. I'll just upgrade the main SSD to Mojave, probably get some other sort of external for backups, and go from there. For backups, I would think an HDD MIGHT be more reliable long term than an SSD? And I've only ever used Samsung SSDs. I think the current 500G one is an 850 EVO? And that is a great price on the Crucial! But, I think I will buy a Seagate external 6TB 7200 rpm HDD for $127.

My 2012 i7 Mac Mini is still my main computer as it does pretty much all that I need (16G RAM, 500G SSD + 1T HDD). It is currently on High Sierra due to 32 bit support. Several apps that I use are 32 bit and can't be easily/cheaply upgraded to 64 bit: Eagle ($$$), Office 2011 and 2016 (I still prefer older office versions), etc. My wife uses Turbo Tax and this year the pricks require Mojave as the minimum version. I know that Mojave supposedly supports 32 bit apps, but does it really? Someone suggested that I might want to install it on a separate drive to test before doing so on the main SSD. Any recs for an external drive (SSD?) of probably 2T to use for this (as well as backup/Time Machine duties)? The original 1T HDD is partitioned; 1/2 used for additional files (not very full) and the other 1/2 for Time Machine. The SSD was a big boost in performance, so I don't think I want to go back to a HDD as a boot drive. Thanks!

Thanks for the info! Yes, I hadn't considered the Cardas jacks, but might. I haven't done any more work on this yet. I need to order the switch to see what effect that has on the spacing. Edit: Hmmm, I thought I had Vampire's website, but as you mention, I can't find it now. I wonder if something is up with them (as in gone under). Could be a good reason not to use them, although for my application, it is somewhat a one-off. I might want to reuse in the future however, so possibly looking at the Cardas might be wise. I presume it is the GRFA PS2 that you were referring to?

Yeah, that reminds me of when my wife and I lived in Dallas. The first year we were there, there was a bad ice storm. I was going to go to work, so went out, got in the car, and backed out of my parking spot in our apartment complex. This was on a hill, and I was perpendicular to the hill. Car slid sideways down the hill, couldn't get back up it, so called in to work. Later, on the news, I heard something about someone killed while riding a motorcycle (among other traffic accidents). Agreed. I ventured over to ASR the other day, and happened upon a thread that Amir was measuring a couple of Stax amps. Kevin wandered by and explained to him why his standard 100K load wasn't going to cut it here. After much handwaving, Amir declared that he shouldn't have to read (and understand) an amp schematic in order to properly measure one. Somehow he managed to not blow up his AP or whatever it is he is using to do his measurements. Thread closed. D-bag indeed!
