  1. My gmail account is acting a little weird and I haven't received any email. Could somebody please send me a test message so that I can verify that I'm receiving email? Thx.
  2. Thanks Earl. We were able to use a pay phone and talk to him. There is a number here at the resort but I don't think anybody will answer it until 10am. The number is on the web site. I didn't sleep much. Between my brain spinning, the pain and a loudly snoring roommate, it was tough. The hard thing now is to figure out how to get me and the bike back to SB. First stop will be (hopefully) Desert Hot Springs. There, I'll be able to rent a Uhaul to get me and the bike back to SB. I knew the list would come through for me. Thanks everybody.
  3. EDIT: There is a pay phone here. We are going to try to get enough change together to call ourselves. Please hold until you hear from me again. ---- Until yesterday afternoon, I was doing a 5 day dual sport motorcycle ride. Unfortunately I had a big crash on a dirt road. I'm basically OK but almost certainly have broken ribs and am in no shape to continue riding. The crash was at the end of the day and I was able to make it to here, which was where we were planning to stay the night. This is in the middle of nowhere just south of Death Valley. Of course, there is no cell coverage. As you can see from this, I do have access to a computer. I emailed Stacy (my wife) last night telling her of my predicament, but she hasn't responded so is obviously not reading emails. What I need is for someone to call "Big Frank" in Desert Hot Springs, CA. His numbers are: 760-329-7983 760-799-0223 cell His house is our destination today. He has a pickup and could come pick me and my bike up. Could someone please call him (he'll be up by now) and tell him the predicament here with the "John Chase group" and that we need to pick him up. Please give him my email address: mueller<DOT>ken<AT>gmail.com so we can coordinate. Please make it clear that I'll pay for gas. Also please wish him a Happy Birthday. Thanks a lot. I really need this. -ken

  5. I understand. I can populate the boards and probably debug problems (with just a little help. ) I'd need lots of help when it comes to casing it up. However, if some of the casework is done, I might be able to muddle through it. Of course, it really depends on what cost we are talking about. My question may be quite moot (to me).
  6. Are there SMD components in the build or is everything through-hole? I can handle the latter but would rather avoid the former.
  7. This looks like a job for Super Rockhopper. I'm sure that Stephen will get right on it after he finished putting together a part list for a source selector for me.
  8. Did a "ride in" at Bill Mayer Saddles. The stock saddle on the Suzuki DRZ-400S is a torture device. I'll post pics later in the "last thing you bought" thread.
  9. Happy Birthday!
  10. Also make sure that your browser is configured to run java.
  11. I've yet to find headphones that actually let me feel music on my body. Speakers do this. Good speakers do everything good headphones do plus this. To me, that's more presence.
  12. I listened to the PK1s and PK2s at HeadFest in SJ being driven by a current (at the time) Head-Direct amp and my iPod. I haven't heard the PK1s since then. I bought the PK2s. They have a nice midrange and are a little rolled off at the extremes. What they have at the extremes is tight. They have a decent soundstage but not the presence of full sized headphones (, which don't have the presence of speakers, which don't have the presence of live performance). An iPod drives them well and I find I listen a lot to them due to the convenience and their musicality. What I remember about the PK1s is that the extremes are more present. I use a piece of organ music from the Burmester CD II to see how phones do with complex pieces of music. The PK1s sounds muddled to me in this test while the PK2s were much better. This and the fact that I didn't want to be tied to an amplifier are what led me to buy the PK2s. Hopefully some PK1 owners will give their impressions of them. There are threads on HF about them too.
  13. Wrong response. It shows that you haven't done a thing to figure out what this forum is about and the people in it. You're just using it for your benefit, no matter how you posture it to be for others. Fortunately, I don't think you'll be around much longer to continue to do it. The reason Grawk finds it quickly is that he's a moderator here and finds most things quickly. I doubt he gives a whit about stalking you.
  14. Trader Joe's chicken noodle soup with TJ's frozen succotash and enough salt, pepper and tabasco to give it some real flavor.
  15. The PK family are all earbuds. The PK1 needs an amplifier to sound its best, which is very good. If you don't want to use an amp, the PK2 is very nice straight out of a portable source. I'm one of the minority of people that prefer the PK2 to the PK1 (though not by much) amped or not.
  16. I see you are considering open headphones. Is there any reason you wouldn't consider a Yuin PK1? You'll have some nice phones and they are cheap enough to keep as a backup pair after your HP2s are ready.
  17. Or hit you with a shovel.
  18. Happy Birthday!
  19. Where're the wallwarts???
  20. That can't be right. There aren't any wall warts in the power supply.
  21. That's because it rarely is working. Often, it's negative-working. Not only do you not make progress but you break something that has to be fixed before you can continue.
  22. Thanks for the enlightenment. I don't remember hearing that description of it before.
  23. I'm guessing that you mean any SP amp with external power supply. Is that correct? I have an Extreme with stepped attenuator and there definitely is no wall wart in it. I've posted pictures here before. I have no idea of the source of the attenuator.
  24. He probably could. Plus I doubt that Dan really wants to deny everybody the pleasure of resurrecting this amp and creating the Phoenix. Great name Nate!
