  1. Do you have to do an hour by hour review of it as part of the deal?
  2. Calm down there, boy. Happy Birthday Indra.
  3. I only have experience with EH 6SN7 tubes, so it may not apply to EH 6CG7 tubes. I also found them to be competent, but the least favorite 6SN7 or 7N7 I've heard. They lack the details and finesse of the NOS tubes I've heard. On the plus side, their price is right.
  4. I agree. I only use an amp on some plane rides and on train rides, etc. Normally, it's PK2 or UM2 straight from an iPod. Or it's iBuds if I'm working out. Don't want to destroy my nice portable phones.
  5. Maybe Ray will build a tube amp for you then.
  6. Orthodoxy? This is just my experience. Also notice that I say most tubes. I should have said "with the tubes I've tried". My experience is also that any tube that didn't settle down (i.e. stop cracking or hissing) within the 5 hours, never did. Of course, I only tried for another 5 hours or so before either returning the tube or throwing it out. Once a tube has settled down, I never noticed it getting any better. I only noticed it subtly getting worse over time as it wore out. Even that I could only tell by swapping back to back with new tubes. That is until the tube got really close to failure. Then it was pretty obvious. It's amazing how one's brain adapts to slow changes. I agree. This is also what I mean by "settle". This is probably real burn in and it doesn't take long to occur.
  7. And yet, you just managed to do it. Congratulations!
  8. Definitely not everyone fits in here. But it's a great forum and worth the effort to try. As other people have pointed out, effort is the key word. I hope that you decide to make it.
  9. Yes, August 1, 2 and 3 each only come once per year. (Like we need something official to celebrate. )
  10. Agree. I still do too, though I'd highly recommend one buy used until Mikhail demonstrates that he can give and meet realistic finish dates. The Extreme is good and I'd recommend either a PPX3 Slam or MPX3 Slam. You'll need the Slam versions to power the 701s. Note: I heavily edited the quotes of Icarium's original post.
  11. I'll miss you too, whoever you are. See you tomorrow Vicki.
  12. Happy Birthday Todd! I'm looking forward to meeting you this weekend.
  13. Anders, I think that you may have the wrong headphone forum. The "burn-in" forum is over there ->. Really, most tubes settle in 5 hours or so. Then they slowly get worse over time.
  14. Ah, it's the old "slow motion, delayed jedi mind trick"! Slow, but effective.
  15. Definitely you both would both would have fun. Even if he isn't into headphone-fi, he'll be able to find many things to do in the LA area while you are at the meet. My wife and I live in Santa Barbara, a very nice beach town about 1.5 hours up the coast (north) from LA. You'd be welcome to stay at our house before and/or after the meet. We'll be staying in LA during the meet. You just can't be allergic to cats or birds. I'm sure that other people would be happy to host you during your travels too. So that should keep the cost of your vacation down.
  16. It's nice that everybody is telling you what they do. However, what they do may or may not work for you. I suggest that you buy several sessions with a physical trainer, who will assess your current condition and what you are trying to accomplish, and then come up with a program customized for you.
  17. I once worked with a guy (in the high tech business), who used to be in the music business. At one point, he was the bass player of Boston but left the band a year before it hit the big time. He said that JB only wrote two songs, "Doctor My Eyes" and all the rest! I have to admit to liking JB's music, but not enough to pay $100 for one of his cd's.
  18. Yes, he's a computer nerd's computer nerd. I don't remember if the door was open or not. However, he measured temperatures and heat was never a problem. Before he went this route, he mounted his motherboard on his wall. That made it easy to access boards, etc. so he could change/hack them. He's the brightest engineer I've ever met.
  19. "10 Best Bombers" on the Military Channel.
  20. No, the refrigerator was dead and not running. It was just an insulated box, i.e. just a small room in which to put the computer.
  21. Or you can do what a friend of mine did. He found an old abandoned beverage refrigerator and kept his computer in it. It didn't overheat and you couldn't hear the fans. I guess that the reefer solution qualifies as not being in the same room.
  22. It looks like you're headed up the creek without a paddle.
  23. So you're basically asking how much burn in time salsa needs, right? Well, it depends. Is this MilSpec salsa? Also, how big are the tomato chunks?
