  1. I listened to your setup with the modded d5000 at the Baltimore/DC meet last weekend. Nice to meet you BTW. To me, they sounded really slow. In fact, I would use the word plodding. I'm definititely a PRAT fan and for me the d5000 didn't have it. Sorry. Of course, your mileage obviously varies and that's OK.
  2. Happy Birthday. Hope that you are enjoying your new amp.
  3. Grilled chicken breast with "many mustards" marinade. Also some grilled Yukon potatoes and string beans, both with garlic and rosemary. Yum!
  4. I agree with this. Well, except for the loving Yancy Butler part. But "meh" says it all about Witchblade.
  5. Hatari. One of my favorite John Wayne movies and different than most of them.
  6. Hi Al. Hope your vacation is going well and that my phone calls didn't interrupt it too badly. Yes, we all got linked up back together. Thanks again for your help. Also, Steveio was on his best behavior, so nothing interesting to report there. I slept all afternoon. As soon as I wake up, I'll post my pictures and impressions.
  7. John Mellencamp last Wednesday at the Santa Barbara Bowl.
  8. HP2 > headphiled K340 >> PK2 > UM2 > Darth Beyers > other miscellaneous headphones
  9. Happy Birthday
  10. I'm still at the hotel in Gaithersburg. I had a great time at the meet seeing old friends and making new friends. Dan did a great job in organizing and everything ran smoothly. I'll be heading out this afternoon with Jeff taking me and Vicki to the airport. I'll post the pictures I took and more impressions tomorrow, after I've recovered from the flight. I've only partied twice now with Steveio, but he was much calmer here in Maryland than he was in Florida. I didn't see him do anything inappropriate. Of course, I heard that Maryland is the last state in the union that will allow him to live in it, so he's probably on his best behavior here trying not to jinx the deal. You still may be completely nuts, but I listened to them both last night and I definitely preferred the Mk I. I didn't listen to them long enough to be able to tell you why, but I liked its sound better. Both are wonderful headphones, of course.
  11. Do you have to do an hour by hour review of it as part of the deal?
  12. Calm down there, boy. Happy Birthday Indra.
  13. I only have experience with EH 6SN7 tubes, so it may not apply to EH 6CG7 tubes. I also found them to be competent, but the least favorite 6SN7 or 7N7 I've heard. They lack the details and finesse of the NOS tubes I've heard. On the plus side, their price is right.
  14. I agree. I only use an amp on some plane rides and on train rides, etc. Normally, it's PK2 or UM2 straight from an iPod. Or it's iBuds if I'm working out. Don't want to destroy my nice portable phones.
  15. Maybe Ray will build a tube amp for you then.
  16. Orthodoxy? This is just my experience. Also notice that I say most tubes. I should have said "with the tubes I've tried". My experience is also that any tube that didn't settle down (i.e. stop cracking or hissing) within the 5 hours, never did. Of course, I only tried for another 5 hours or so before either returning the tube or throwing it out. Once a tube has settled down, I never noticed it getting any better. I only noticed it subtly getting worse over time as it wore out. Even that I could only tell by swapping back to back with new tubes. That is until the tube got really close to failure. Then it was pretty obvious. It's amazing how one's brain adapts to slow changes. I agree. This is also what I mean by "settle". This is probably real burn in and it doesn't take long to occur.
  17. And yet, you just managed to do it. Congratulations!
  18. Definitely not everyone fits in here. But it's a great forum and worth the effort to try. As other people have pointed out, effort is the key word. I hope that you decide to make it.
  19. Yes, August 1, 2 and 3 each only come once per year. (Like we need something official to celebrate. )
  20. Agree. I still do too, though I'd highly recommend one buy used until Mikhail demonstrates that he can give and meet realistic finish dates. The Extreme is good and I'd recommend either a PPX3 Slam or MPX3 Slam. You'll need the Slam versions to power the 701s. Note: I heavily edited the quotes of Icarium's original post.
  21. I'll miss you too, whoever you are. See you tomorrow Vicki.
  22. Happy Birthday Todd! I'm looking forward to meeting you this weekend.
  23. Anders, I think that you may have the wrong headphone forum. The "burn-in" forum is over there ->. Really, most tubes settle in 5 hours or so. Then they slowly get worse over time.
  24. Or the seller.
  25. Ah, it's the old "slow motion, delayed jedi mind trick"! Slow, but effective.
