I don't think so -- the way Massdrop works is, they promote a slightly tweaked version of an already popular product, sort of like Grado did with Head-Fi and the HF-1 and HF-2. I mean, I still applaud you for being suspicious, as we all should be, but I don't think it's as bad as all that. They may be using this as a venue for trying out a slightly new tweak on the HD650, there's nothing in the rules against that. I'm just weary of what the tweaks could be, as I don't consider all tweaks to necessarily be improvements.

What veil? I took a pass on the HD6xx...but only because I forgot it was today. Will "settle" for the HD600 at BHPhoto, which I remember prefering to the HD650 by a small margin.

Damn, that's too bad. I lost my Grado pads for my PS-1. I wonder if I can get replacements? That said, they're entirely different, I remember now why I replaced them. But I will obtain so that I can sell the PS-1 stock.

Again, without knowing what was wrong with your previous system, just telling us it is better tells us it's better than broken, and that's not telling us much. Most of our systems aren't broken. USB is fine for transferring data -- think about a program, or an encrypted archive: it needs to be a perfect digital replica of itself after being transferred. If one bit is off -- one bit! -- it is considered corrupt. So the only thing left is timing. Jitter. Jitter just isn't that audible, not as night and day as you are describing. It's subtle, as Sechtdamon says. Not unless something was really really wrong, and you should have been able to hear a difference just by trying a third system. Look, I'm happy for you that it's so much better than your old system, but most of us wouldn't have put up with that shit.
