Portable speakers
I'm not looking for audiophile. I'm looking for something I can actually turn up a little bit without it distorting, to overcome the fan noise of the server. I'm actually thinking MiniRigs or something. I don't care if it's colored -- the Cube is colored in a very specific way, but I kind of like it. I'm kind of regretting getting the Cubes over the UCubes, mostly because of the ability to use two of them (two of them -- even if I can't get stereo separation -- will still be able to go louder than one of them, but don't know if that applies to Cubes vs. UCubes). I mean, you'd have to stack a lot of Spendor S3/5's together before you could go as loud as one Quad 12L, so if one Cube is better than a pair of UCubes, then I'm fine with it, but I still want to go a bit louder. So yeah, Mini Maggies are out. And yeah, I didn't post that before, because I kind of didn't realize it until just now. I kept turning it up when I went into the kitchen, then turning it down because it was annoying. I certainly can't go loud with the laptop speakers. And yes, I do realize it's a trade-off between drivers and weight, because more drivers ==> goes louder well, but there are small drivers that go plenty loud well (Dynaudio's Esotar 2 comes to mind), so that's what I need to figure out. That's kind of why I thought about the Gallos -- they're supposed to be satellites, so they should go loud well.

And now what did you do TODAY?
Sweet. Sounds very homey. I actually got shit done at work today, myself. I love rainy weather. I feel energized.

Pfff -- no. I think the Mini Maggies are at least still in the same weight category.

What are you listening to Part the Third
Dani Joss, Liquid Photography -- I need to find anything out there like this (especially the first and third tracks). It's rare that I can use the word "earworm" on something that can also be described as "sparse", "minimalistic" and having zots of "ambiance". Also, Daemonia Nymphe - Remixed, various artists, including Dani Joss, albeit less minimal

Portable speakers
So I was googling (single-driver OR full-range-driver) (active-monitor OR powered-monitor) and got these. Yeah, that's what I want, to have to make three trips to work every day, one for each speaker...lollers...

Portable speakers
That's exactly what I want.

And now what did you do TODAY?
No, it's fine, I'm sure. It's just that I would recommend a bass amp for a bass. But no, I wouldn't do that again -- you might blow the woofer. You can also get a MicroVR for US$300. (Unless you wanted a full combo amp/cab.)

Portable speakers
So looks like the upcoming office isn't going to be any better, so I'm thinking slightly better, since this is no longer a temporary problem. Gallo A'Diva speakers (2 lbs.) NuForce DDA-100 (2.64 lbs.)? Icon-2 (1 lb.)? Peachtree MusicBOX (20 lbs. -- maybe not)? Something else?

And now what did you do TODAY?
Uh, no. It's bi-amped. I mean, yes, you have two amps in there, but no, I wouldn't use it as a bass amp. (I know you meant the amps, not the speaker part of it, but I still wouldn't.) Or sell the pair as a fixer upper. "needs tweeter or tweeter amp (tweeter is busted)" I would still contact lanemart and ask them what it would take to refurbish it -- if it's less than US$50, it's worth it, just because you'll get > US$50 more for it on eBay. Of course, most of that would be shipping, so maybe US$100?

You need to leave them a (pink) bottle of that bacon maple donut beer stuff.

I need to make a T-shirt that takes that "push button/receive bacon" to the next step: push button/receive bacon/receive bacon directly to face

Google Android OS
My biggest culprits are GPS, wireless, and screen, in that order. GPS (obviously, constantly downloading map bits); wireless -- even when there's no wireless connected, it's constantly taking inventory and trying to connect, so if I'm not at home or at work, I turn it off. Screen -- she's right, you basically mean you don't use your phone. If you turn on an audio app and then screenlock it, I bet it still uses up your battery life. But then again, I still have an original 1st gen Motorola Droid. I don't want to have to switch to a ceilinged plan, so until I have time to figure out how, I don't want to upgrade.

New Oppo player for late 2012
It depends on the facility, but most of the facilities that I've ever heard of won't let you take anything with wireless capability into the lab, unless it is defeatable. True story, albeit second-hand -- a certain person I know had to turn over their laptop to the security techs, so that they could take the internal wireless card out (obviously not the kind that's built into the motherboard). These days, that separation is a lot harder to find than you'd think.

Or we could hack the Oppo's OS... Is that more like it?
