  1. Just so you know, you are also doing it for our benefit -- namely, vacariously attending. So please feel free to post as much detail as amuses you. I'm no longer into coffee beers at all*, so Dark Lord itself does not interest me, personally, but the beer part still does. *I don't know what happened -- some time in the last couple years I got real squeamish about the smell and taste of coffee -- it's almost like I had a bad batch, but I don't drink coffee. So I don't know what it is.
  2. Actually, Evil Dead -- Gaston has an uncanny resemblance to Ash/Bruce Campbell. ...and, of course, The Corinthian.
  3. Definitely. Your timeframe has been defined.
  4. I'm not sure which is more disturbing, that image, or the fact that I instantly recognized it as Gaston, from Disney's animated version of Beauty and the Beast.
  5. This is a good general rule-of-thumb. Decide what you need, allocate a budget, and get what you will when you need to. There's always something new around the corner. I mean, think about 10 years ago -- would you have waited 10 years for what's available now, back then? No, you needed it then, so you got what you could, then.
  6. Or (agreeing with grawk here) just pick a pair of headphones that are compatible with built-in headphone amps.
  7. I thought Netflix uses Silverlight. (Which is why I can't use Netflix on my linux build.)
  8. Sure there is -- pop open the laptop, replace the headphone amplifier with a good one.
  9. I want to go to someone else's reunion.
  10. Budapest Georgia, Budapest Missouri, or...? And who's playing there, or is it a headphone meet? ...or a raffle?
  11. How about a smaller notebook? That's the main reason I got the one I did. A lot of weight is in the case, which is a direct function of the screen size, so I got a 1080p 15.6" laptop for exactly that reason. It weighs about the same as a regular laptop, but has the screen real estate of a larger, "desktop replacement" laptop.
  12. I have been thinking about this myself, and the only problem I have with a nice pair of efficient, easily driven phones (VTG's or Sony MDR-V6/-7506's), and my M-Audio Transport and the HeadAmp Pico Slim is...cooling. The Sony Vaio is notorious for running hot, so I really should probably whip out everything every time. Alright, and the USB connector -- it'd be nice if they had right-angle USB connectors. I know they do, but I haven't bothered to go out of my way to obtain one yet. So I do. Do you now? (gives Dan the knowing smirk and the eyebrow wiggle)
  13. Yeah, I'd be pissed if I were paying for prime and getting that kind of service.
  14. Note, also, the boom mic. (scratches chin)

  16. Or you could get a Mac Mini and a Displayport adapter.
  17. Tried the Funky Llama malbec last night, a cheap ($6/bottle) malbec. If you set your expectations on "cheap malbec", you will be pleasantly surprised -- I was. It's not as full-bodied (or even as dark or purple) as other malbecs I've had, but flavor-wise, it didn't err offensively in any direction -- I would say it was less on the fruity side of the fruity/earthy scale than the Bodega Norton non-reserva...yet still fruity. So yeah, will probably get another bottle to share with my sister and her friends on Sunday. If she still drinks wine.
  18. That's an awesome pic.
  19. I have this track stuck in my head for some reason. I love the way it starts out all serene and chant-y, and slowly evolves into this noise freak-out. Laurie Anderson sample doesn't hurt.
  20. Goddamnit, I forgot to buy something with that Crestron coupon.
  21. Community -- Competitive Wine Tasting -- I love this show. "Hey, look, you can take a class in how to tell a joke." Annie: "No, don't take that, I dropped it after 'Setups'. The professor was so old..." (long pause, followed by nothing)
  22. I'll give it a try then.
