The thing is, no-one cares. Most producers/mixers/engineers/musicians tend to listen to the end product in a variety of environments to make sure it is at least listenable on most stereos, including a cheap car speaker with extremely limited frequency bandwidth. It's actually very possible to get very accurate sound-/head-stage with electronics (look up 'convolution reverb')...but most just shrug and say, "who cares?" It's more important to get it to sound nice in other areas -- for example, that 'wall of sound', or a nice separation of voice from the rest of the mix.

There's a lot of 2-channel jazz (I.E. Mapleshade) which images well on speakers. I'll have to look that up and read it later.

Actually, I think it's exactly the same, because all the tires usually say something about symmetry or directionality, but not necessarily both. EDIT: But I will admit, this confuses me:

Me neither, especially since most music is not targeted at headphones, so the concept of imaging is ludicrous with anything other than binaural recordings. So take anything I say within that context. What? No, quite the opposite, for good imaging, you want the most accurate, best stereo separation, yet best matching between channels that you can get. You definitely want clarity. But then again, I don't understand imaging on headphones in the way that people usually talk about it. It's easier for me to talk about separation and isolation of particular musical elements in the mix, etc.

Yeah, Smeggy, if you haven't heard the HP-1000 series (HP-1, HP-2, HP-3), they're probably the least shouty of any of them.

What did we establish about the t40? IIRC, it's different, but one thing we didn't establish was whether or not it was of the same caliber. I mean, this page seems to indicate that there are at least similarities ("...a new RP Diaphragm (now standard across the range)...").

What?!?!? Considering Pretty Hate Machine came out only a month after their second album, L'Eau Rouge, I really don't see how you can say that. I mean, don't get me wrong, I love The Young Gods. Very innovative. I met them, and treasure my signed copy of a promo cassette they gave me. Have you heard Everybody Knows yet? They've really gone off in a different direction lately. Well, not as different as Heaven Deconstruction or Music for Artificial Clouds, but still...a long way off from T.V. Sky or Only Heaven...but I digress...

Hey, how do I determine if a tire is bidirectional? Does 'symmetric tread design' mean the same thing? (I want to make sure I can rotate my tires amongst all wheel positions, not just the ones on the same side.) (Question not directed at Grawk, but at anyone who can answer.) Yes, I am only now getting around to this.

Well, there are 9V lantern batteries that can deliver a bit more current, but the story in the link explicitly states that it was whatever battery was in the multimeter, so...I don't know.

I can think of worse places to be than Hawaii in November. That's, like, my favorite place on earth that I've ever been. I used to travel to Hawaii (for work) a lot -- I never had a problem going there -- just went to bed when I felt like it (8pm) the first night, and I was good to go. Of course, I was a lot younger then. The hard part is coming back. Zombie for a day, pretty much. I started taking the red-eye back, just because it wasn't worth it not to. So: last day of work == Friday, red-eye == Friday night/Saturday morning; stay up all day Saturday (maybe take a nap), then go to bed early Saturday night. YMMV, etc. I forget where it is, but there's a killer Italian-type place in the center of town...they have this thing like garlic bread, except it's knots. I forget what they're called, and where they are, but I want to say it was near a mall. (does a little bit of googling) Yeah, that looks right. It looks like nothing more than an Olive Garden, but I remember liking it. Worth trying, if you can get to it.

Placebo? That's all I got.

Finished Frostbitten, read Men Of The Otherworld (which I thought was a short story collection, but was largely the backstory of one of the primary men in the series. Also read Definitely Dead and All Together Dead by Charlaine Harris -- she's my second favorite of the genre. Started Altered Carbon by Richard K. Morgan.
