I've got something stuck in my head, and I don't know what it is. It's not George Clinton, "Atomic Dog" ("Bow-wow-wow yippee-yo yippee-yay...") and it's not Hooked on a Feeling ("Ooga chaka..."), but it's got a similarly catchy nonsense phrase -- "Boom-chaka-laka-laka boom-chaka-laka-laka boom-chaka-laka-laka boom" -- anyone have any idea what it is? I'm thinking Parliament/Funkadelic, or something like that, but I could be somewhere else entirely.

The opening foray (Jaws) is still the best.

It brings the impedance up, I believe is the intention. (I.E. OTL amps typically need higher impedance loads, this gives it to them, but then you can plug a lower impedance headphone like a Grado or an AT into it.)

I think the difference is largely psychological -- you know there's those switches in the signal path on the ones that aren't on the twos, so you want to hear a difference, but I don't know if it's actually there.

It certainly can be done, though historically it just plain hasn't.

That sucks, Monkey-man. Comsat used to have their annual lay-offs right around Thanksgiving, too. My dad espoused the theory that it would save in their holiday party budget as well as everything else end-of-year -related.

Historically, as soon as people get theirs, they stop posting for a while, and then when they return, it's never as much as they used to, so...please post every once in a while to let us know you're still alive.

What about fusion? Al Di Meola (specifically Elegant Gypsy, Casino), Jeff Beck (Wired, Blow by Blow, There and Back), Return to Forever (Romantic Warrior)? What about the old melodic stuff like The Birth of the Cool (Miles Davis) and Somethin' Else (Cannonball Adderley)? What about Cookin'/Steamin'/Walkin'/&c.? And yes, I did know that, had forgotten, I think we-all even had this exact same conversation before. (Peter: defends Nate's taste as varietous; someone else: No argument, it's just that he hates jazz; Nate: Yeah, I hate jazz.)

What are you two talking about? Nate has probably the most varied tastes of anyone on this board, and that's coming from a contender.

To me, it's all about real estate. 13" == 1280x800 15" == 1440x900 ~= 27% more real estate, so I would throw that in your oven bag and shake it. Me, personally, I intend to get two -- one of the tiny Sony Vaio Lifestylers with the 1600x768 8" screen, and a huge HP dv8t with the full 1080p 18" screen.

I'm in for a pair, though I remain skeptical it's "L3000 awesome". If it's even 1/6 as awesome, it's still pretty fucking awesome.
