  1. Well, I posted all the ad copy a while ago in the last-thing-you-bought thread, but I thought I'd follow up after a while actually listening to it. Short answers: Yes, it's ridiculously tiny. Yes, it really does sound ridiculously good for its size. I would say it does honest bass down to the specified 80Hz and then some, which is quite an achievement for something that weighs all of 9oz. Mids and treble are clear and pleasant. At three feet or so, it will play louder than I'd care to listen for long. Remarkable given the physical constraints. Could you do better for $199? Sure, a pair of Audioengine A2s will make mincemeat out of it. Could you do better for the sort of application I had in mind? (Wife's office, hiding under monitor, any obvious speakers unacceptable.) I doubt it. Hats off to Dr. Appropriately-Germanic-sounding and all his crew.
  2. Sweet. I hope this works as advertised. I get crappy cell reception in my basement dungeon office but I'm sitting right next to my router.
  3. I think your clients should get a break on your hourly rate, since you are clearly combining business with pleasure.
  4. Right. And communism was a good idea, just never properly implemented. You certainly heard constant howls of protest from the finance industry during the decade or so when they were being "forced" to make billions of dollars in profits off of the subprime market. Didn't you?
  5. As opposed to the outstanding success of the unfettered free market in running us into this ditch to begin with?
  6. Offered without comment. Obama 08: The Official iPhone and iPod Touch Application
  7. Is it really surprising the "high end" market is so full of bullshit artists, given how much of it is based on pure bullshit?
  8. I would be in like Flynn. And can fit quite a lot of beer in the back of the Volvo.
  9. I got my friend a pair of OK2s for his birthday to use with his iPod and he's all so I was thinking of throwing in something basic for his PC. I know this is one of those questions, but I guess I'm looking for a cheap and cheerful USB DAC/amp that will leave some room to grow with harder-to-drive headphones. Thinking Total Bithead budget -- is there a better way to go (including used and DIY) for that kind of scratch? All suggestions welcome. Except "buy him a Pico." We're not that kind of friends.
  10. Nice-looking rig apart from the shitty amp. Get real and get a Predator noob!
  11. That's what some pretty smart people thought about WaMu at $8 a share and Bear at $35 and, maybe, Goldman at whatever Buffett just bought it at. Picking a bottom is an inexact science. Even for scientists, Beefy.
  12. Totally Wanky Acronym and Typesetting (TWAT) award winner, in perpetuity.
  13. The rain it raineth on the just And also on the unjust fella. But chiefly on the just, Because the unjust steals the just's umbrella. I agree with you in principle, but in practice a total collapse and subsequent depression will probably -- as ever -- most affect the people who had the least to do with this boondoggle.
  14. Not to mention that LIBOR is now almost 7%! Can't borrow much shorter than overnight. Actually, scratch that, can't borrow -- period.
  15. Little Britain USA More hit than miss.
  16. Oh my God. It is the end!
  17. Did you know most farmers also have to take out loans to get the harvest in? The Biggest Loser: National Edition.
  18. Nate, I have friends in consumer finance and used to follow the industry in my previous job. And you're right, it's a cesspool. Of interest, the big issuers are thinking of swinging the pendulum all the way back now that the party's over. We'll likely soon see them starting to unilaterally close the accounts of customers under a certain credit score threshold in the name of cleaning up their loan portfolios. This will be a very nasty surprise for lots of people who have been living on credit, or counting on it as their cushion to get through the coming tough period, and an absolute kick in the nuts for consumer spending and the broader economy. So if you think CC companies are unpopular now, just wait a while!
  19. Is this not often simply abbreviated to "The American Dream"?
  20. Hey, that's a primo six-channel architecture, that is! Those pennies have two sides, remember?
