  1. Just got to my dad's place a little while ago. He got back from China day before yesterday after a month and a half. We didn't get to talk for long as he was already asleep when we arrived. Am not feeling well - allergies or smog or something is bothering the piss out of my throat and nose. Hopefully I'll be better tomorrow. However, I just got checked the grades and all A's so far. Only this morning's grade remains so quite pleased with the way the vacation has started. Couple of days walking around and then will head down to University Park to attend my sister's graduation. I will probably do the outdoors tomorrow. Day after the weather is supposed to be yucky so will probably take the buses/trains around to various museums, libraries, burger joints etc and keep things indoors.
  2. Thanks for all the suggestions. Sitting on my couch for the past hour waiting for our ride because my mom refuses to take a cab or park the car at te airport for a week. Excited but getting in late so don't know how early ill be able to get out tomorrow morning but I think I'll do the trail you suggested ari. Still need to figure out how to get home once I take the ferry to staten island. Probably just take it back and retrace my steps through other parts of manhattan. If a more efficient route is available im all ears.
  3. Extra credit - find a way to make the proofs converge onto a compact space (scantron). have fun Shelly. Good luck to all the dads.
  4. ...Things/Stuff/Places to photograph? I shall be in nyc on the 2nd and 3rd of May. There are all those bus tours one could take and absent suggestions I might just do that. However, if the locals feel my time might be better spent not doing that, I am open to suggestion. If anyone would like to walk around during the day or perhaps meet up for lunch let me know. Any company would be much appreciated. The last time I was in the city was in 3rd grade so I am looking forward to spending the 2 days walking around. Not into the whole club/bar scene (I don't drink or party). Will be at the mercy of public transportation for getting back to dad's apt in little ferry, nj so kindly suggest time appropriate activities/things to do.
  5. Took 3 back to back 2.5 hours finals. One more on Tuesday but that one is cake and I got plenty of time to study for. Non take home final exams are so undergraduate... ps. congratulations to you and yours larry.
  6. that pentax camera color makes me angry.
  7. A different kind of waterfall...
  8. I don't know how much different the s95 is from the s90 but I'll have it with me in nyc in a few days if you want to play with that also.
  9. I'm going to throw in a vote for a fuji x10. While a wee bit thicker than the s95, it focuses closer than the s95, shoots faster, better iq, slightly better dr. You could shoehorn it into a really big pocket...

Started season 1. Pretty good show.
  11. That must be one bitchin' laptop, Steve. Congratulations Mike.
  12. ISTP. Took the same test in 2004 for an intro psych class. Just pulled up my paper from back then and had the same results back then too. 89% for introverted lol.

    Girls

Haven't seen it but its on the box. Might give it a look see.
  14. Lovely image Peter. Would you mind sharing how you did that? Just a slow shutter speed or was some filter magic involved? I am guessing maybe some processing too?
  15. saw obama in person give a speech on economic reform at my school. man has swagger.
  16. Signed up for the mcat for August 17th. Dug out my old study plan and tweaked it for 3 months. I don't have the stamina I used to when I was younger. Purchased a bunch of review books. Finished my physics problem set. Read a little further into Michael crichtons micro. Made a salmon in bbq sauce sandwich with sautéed onions and honey wheat bread. It came out absurdly well. I haven't cooked fish much but it seems like a cast iron pan makes everything cook evenly and better. Did laundry and vaccuumed the entire house and wet mopped after. Did the dishes and fixed a leaking faucet in the kitchen. Mom is happy. Not about to enjoy some potato and French beans and a side of lentil from our home town in India (mom just came back from India). Busy day but I have the day off tomorrow to spend with Julie. She has a lot of studying to do so will probably end up reading ahead but really just staring at her the entire time.
  17. happy birthday zach

  19. Who is that suggestion for? I hope not me. Quite certain I don't need 8gb ram to watch a 1080p movie.
  20. problem is i don't have a dedicated computer like yours grahame. If i did it would just go straight to the tv via hdmi. might try the wd tv live at home and get dad a tv that supports amazon prime natively. He doesn't have a tv right now, not that he watches much to begin with but we would like to get him something as he is alone in ny and i am sure he wouldn't mind watching random tv every once in a while. Native support for amazon/netflix would be nice.
  21. looks like it has trouble with 720p stuff =/ http://forums.boxee.tv/showthread.php?t=663
  22. a search of htpc on amazon popped this up. http://www.amazon.com/Media-Center-Gigabit-Network-Reader/dp/B005M1QP7O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1333564562&sr=8-1 i know nothing about this stuff. is there any reason ^ wouldn't do what I want it to? perhaps a netbook that does 1080p smooth via hdmi? starting to read about this stuff now.
  23. sorry to revive an old thread but some of my requirements matched dougs so i figured i would ask here. i am looking to cancel the cable subscription with dish network at home and just use the internet/amazon prime/netflix/hulu for tv/news purposes. would like something that could play 1080p mkv files off of a hard drive without issue. Most content is 720p but I'd like for 1080p to be playable without issue. something with an hdmi to get away from a bunch of cables. the web streams would be limited to 360/480p due to a 3 mbit line at home. low noise is a priority. id like to stay away from a whole lot of configuration so windows might be favored over mythtv or whatever is out now in terms of linux but if it offers better support i will go with linux. am i better off picking something off the shelf/amazon or building something? budget is fairly low. the speakers are the inbuilt ones on the tv so no need for crazy sound cards. no games. no blu ray. just hard drive files and streaming and maybe the occasional dvd but already have a dvd player so that is optional too. any thoughts? suggestions for hardware? would prefer it be rather small as it will be used for a very limited function.
  24. That made my head hurt. It seems hard to maintain. Something is bound to go bad while configuration or just running the damn thing. I'd just spring for cheap hardware for non critical stuff. Probably cost the same as the license for a software that does what you are trying to do. Install everything and let it be on its own on a switch in the house somewhere and rdp or vnc into it when needed. Just a few strokes more than clicking the desktop button. Keep one Linux box and one pc. I honestly think it would be much easier to maintain and way easier to troubleshoot. I realize not what you asked for but consider it. We had a little box running centos for a game server in our apartment. All admin stuff was done via vnc. FTP was used to update maps. Game files updated automatically. I think in the 3 years we maybe physically accessed the box like 5 times. The box was also running a host of other things that didnt require beefy hardware but needed a whole lot of bandwidth never had any issues.
