  1. Happy Birthday!
  2. That is sad that the conditions are so poor. It's great that your sister puts in the time and effort to help. I made a donation I hope it helps a few of them find a good home.
  3. I'm not sure I can really comment one way or another on this as at least with the GS-X my experience in actual listening is that the balanced drive really didn't make a difference when properly volume matched. That said in doing some auditory tests I have proven to myself that there is less distortion with balanced drive and there certainly is a lower noise floor so I generally go that route (that and there is no reason to ever get rid of a GS-X ).
  4. Well I finally got to hear my HD800s balanced out of my GS-X today and it sounds truly amazing much like it did single ended. That said I was really impressed by the BUDA amp + HD800s at CJ. I think everyone stating it's a no-lose is pretty much on the money.
  5. Well I apparently riled up something even lamer then.
  6. Tried out mobile.head-case.org and it works great. Thanks
  7. lead a team meeting and presented a presentation. Went to local urgent care about my earaches, got decongestant. Riled up Dusty's rabid mac fanboism.
  8. All I was doing was correcting misstatement by another user that macs are the standard when they are decidedly not so. I have spent a lot of time looking through gear lists at various studios around the world and I know what they are using, for example I don't believe that there is any DSD mastering software for mac . It does appear that many of those guys do post to Gearslutz but hey instead let's make snide and again baseless statements. Fun Fun. You want another big player and one that appears to be entirely PC: Pyramix.
  9. My correction was correct. It is in fact not the default. Spend some time on gearslutz and you will see that a large majority of the protools guys use windows. The fact that protools is available for mac in no way undermines my believeability. I guess I could have been clearer that it was available for both. Holy overreaction bat man.
  10. Again? I thought it was just a Can Jam romance .....
  11. It is in no way the default for pro apps. Protools is Windows most everything else is windows. Amarra and sonic studio are pretty much the biggest players in the mac world because they are one of the few to support it.
  12. My comparison was on a GS-X running SE thought so should be nearly identical to the GS-1. Apparently my now balanced HD800s sound amazing out of a Beta22 as well thought I have to wait until the weekend to hear them out of my GS-X. My ES amp was a brand new KGSS.
  13. Forgot about this thread. For me the answer is HD800
  14. Dusty, I agree if I was keeping my electrostats I would likely buy 4070 too but alas I am not.
  15. I really liked both of them with the KGSS. Really liked. It was sort of an embarrassment of riches.
  16. He's considering being a mac user so I wanted to make is simple and so it required a limited amount of thought
  17. If you are going into engineering (other than possibly CE) get a PC or you will end up dual booting anyway for CAD software and other tools.
  18. yup. It's very similar in character to the HD800 Stretch at least to my ear.
  19. I didn't even hear it out of the BH My impressions were the KGSS.
  20. Happy Birthday to you both!
  21. For me the 4070 were the winner of the electrostatics (comfort aside). If I was going to keep my electrostatic rig then I will look for Lambda Pros and also see if I can find 4070 to replate my O2. As far as BH vs KGSS I did not do straight comparison with the same source but my impression after walking back and forth with the 4070 and O2 was that they are very very similar sounding (which all amps should be in my opinion). I would need more time with it but in each case the BH has impressed me for sounding entirely un-tubey. The Orpheus are really lovely when playing classical. They really do make the music come alive. That said I think that the 800s and 4070 have the same level of detail with better extension on the low end (which won't be noticed really in classical). I would say overall though that the HD800s out of a GS-X are my winner: there is nothing missing and the distortion is so non-existent it is possible to correct to anything else. The higher end phones (R10, L3000, Orpheus) are enjoyable headphones but are too colored for me (at least for R10 I had measurements to back that up). *** All views are my own. YMMV ***
  22. If only....
  23. Well here are some pictures Rugby is my dog He has very keen ears (for food cans or bags) Note the entirely stock wiring to the SRD7
  24. I made the mistake of taking pictures in raw and I'm working on converting them on this laptop...... I would say my favorite is......
  25. Got up, went to gym, welcomed guys to my house, went to five guys, watched electrostats fight to the death, lent my HD800s to Vlad for balancing, typed this message....
