  1. Fantastic news Dusty, I'm glad for you. Best wishes!
  2. I also prefer the Lavry to the Benchmark. The DA-11 is a pretty decent sounding piece of equipment, full of features for the price.
  3. I'm not anti-anything, just I can't get into some genres. Hip-hop is one of them. I guess having to pay extra effort to understand the rhymes and discovering they're mostly about nonsense doesn't help much. I guess there must be good examples worth listening and learning to love, but for me KW isn't one of them.
  4. Well, times change and one needs to learn to adjust to new things, or at least trying. Usually I don't bother with much of the contemporary "pop"--in its widest sense--music, but I needed to try with this disc just for it being raved by so many people.
  5. I'm a bit like Birgir, while I can enjoy some flawed phones (like the PS-1 for instance) I can't stand a few precise flaws, one of them being noticeable peaks of response on certain treble areas. Unfortunately there are a few more Knowing if the 009 are going to have those flaws or not before spending their price is something useful IMHO. Arnaud, I got the 007 mk1, but I have no top notch amp for them (some day eventually), just a decent one, the 717. I think this combo can be improved in a few areas with a better amp, but I believe they are more related to sound dynamics than to sound timbre. Each one of us has his own set of needs and preferences. Some people can tolerate a lot of different "flavors" and being happy with most of them. Others have a more limited capability of abstraction into the music and need their set of "minimum well done things" properly resolved. "Extra resolution" at the expense of treble peaks isn't one of the things I think the 007 need to improve. However it's possible the 009 offer so many other good things that the-yet-to-be-assessed peak won't spoil the joy. We'll see, I still have to see measurements which are really to trust, and a pair of "approved ears" which have listened to them
  6. Best wishes Dusty, I hope she gets well quickly.
  7. It's not my type of music. I disliked the feeling of it being a constant copy of old well known tunes. I don't understand the hype, yet less the morons at Pitchfork giving it a 10.
  8. Sorry purrin, but the O2 (007, second graph) don't have that peak. Again, the difference between both phones in that area is about 5dB.
  9. Excellent news Vicki. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
  10. Not really, to be so, we'd need the peak at the frequencies our ear is less sensitive at low SPL, not where it's most sensitive which is close and around 3.5KHz Good cans for low volume level listening are the ones with response curves in V shape like the PS1000 you mentioned, GS1000, etc.
  11. hahahaha. She'll notice.
  12. Wonderful ring Jacob. That's exactly the kind of stuff my wife loves
  13. Happy B-Day Tyll!! I wish you a great day, damn, a great year too
  14. My point is that all those measurement are supposed to have been made using the same measuring system, that is microphone, ADC, dummy head (if any), etc. Any differences from phones we know how they sound, should keep a relative proportion, so if the 009 has about 5dB of higher response at 4KHz than the 007, that should be something we could hear. I for one can stand better a peak there than in the 5.5-9KHz range, but still not sure I want a pair of phones with 5 extra dB of response at 4KHz compared to the 007. We'll see.
  15. It's not the last octave what concerns me, but the peak at around 5KHz. I guess the very same mic was used to measure the 007 and the 650.
  16. According to the second and last graphs, and also based on my own experience with frequency response plots, I'm afraid the 009 are going to be too bright for my blood
  17. Thank you Todd.
  18. Indeed, I love the smokey tone of her voice, and the music, though "popish" is rather nice too on most of her albums. Now some funky nostalgia Johnny "Guitar" Watson - A Real Mother For Ya
  19. Sam Brown - Ukulele and Voice, 5 Songs... This after a day listening to lots of Oscar Peterson, Ahmad Jamal, Elvin Jones... Next one is going to be more Sam Brown
  20. While you can do that, you may also use them to slow-cook food that may taste better being made that way than on conventional pots. Beans, chickpeas, and some meats like tongue taste wonderful when very slow cooked. Sol makes one of the best "fabes" (white beans stew) I've ever eaten, they take about 14 hours to cook, so she leaves them overnight.
  21. considering it has some French and Italian in between, who knows.
  22. hahahaha, love the Spangrish names of those tapas
  23. Doug, you can come to my place, I'll take out that tri-flange without harm
  24. Oops, wrong thread
