Thanks, I'll research the CIAudio VPPā¢1 MM/MC Phono Preamplifier. I think Grawk also recommended the Haggerman Bugle. Any others in that price range that I should look into while I'm at it?

What do you guys think of the Bellari VP130 phono preamp with the 12AX7 tube in it? I wasn't satisfied with the NAD PP2 preamp and returned it before my 30 day return period was up, but I still have a tight budget after buying the WES. I'm using an NADC555 TT (like Rega P2) with Ortofon Blue 2M cart. Thanks!

I got mine from you sometime last week and put it under the tree, enjoying the anticipation. Thanks! I'll report on it after Xmas, and hope you like your's too.

We haven't had a big snow melt here in Colorado Springs yet. It snowed Sunday - Tuesday here, with a 2 hour school delay Monday and no school yesterday, and back to a 2 hour delay again today. I'm so glad I caved in and bought my 16 year old's Subaru some snow tires Monday, and the training I gave her during the previous two snowstorms on all season tires is paying off - she's doing well on the snow now.

www.thecablepro.com has a new Earcandy 90 degree LOD for about $59 that works with iPhone (but I don't think it uses a resistor to disable the "not made for" message). I have one on the way and report on it soon. I met Ted The owner at RMAF, and my son and I dined with him, and he's a nice guy. I also like my CablePro Panorama 1/8" extension cable Ted made. I was also planning on getting one from Justin if he decides to make them later.

Do you need any KGBH boards to round it out? (lemme know, no PSU board though)

4 snow tires for my daughter's car - BFG Traction TA are great in dry and wet, not so good on snow, and suck on ice. Returning the NAD PP2 will pay for one of the tires mounted, since it's not much of an upgrade over my GEMSound PL-USB phono pre and A/D converter. I'll look to upgrade next year.

4GB is enough for a Macbook - My 4GB Macbook Pro can run a Mail, Safari, iPhoto, iTunes and Parallels with Win XP in it's own window at the same time just fine. My Wife's 3GB iMac and the kid's 2GB Macbooks struggle more doing that and they resort to using more virtual memory, but even those do fine when not running a virtual machine at the same time as multiple applications. (all the machines here are Core 2 Duo at 2 Ghz or faster) -
Well, there ya' go! It's always nice to have corroboration. Thanks!

	That sucks. I hate thieves.

I thought that the faster you go the harder it was for the wind to push you over, because of the gyroscopic action of the wheels? I guess with light weight wheels that doesn't help as much? SSS (sorry so stupid).

Hi, I sent you a reply to your PM - I should be able to ship you one pair on Tuesday or Wednesday via Express Mail International, as UPS tracking puts them as arriving here on Tuesday. So, all you need is someone to sell you one more pair at their cost like me, since I wasn't looking to profit off them. Cheers!

				Amp/DAC recommendation for D2000 & DT990
HeadphoneAddict replied to rpaul's topic in Headphone Amplification
Wont ever know, I traded them + cash for a used Moon Audio Cardas cabled ATH-AD2000 which were better. Not sure what I sold those for... -
I bought ONE extra that I can sell to you for what I paid plus shipping and paypal fees, but I'd need your shipping address to calculate shipping costs to you overseas. And I'd need to know if you need Priority Mail International or Express Mail International. I would send it as a $100 insured gift. I'd also need a phone number and email address. They will be here Tuesday (each $110 shipped), and since one of my kids is happy with Skullcandy and the other has Westone 1 already, I really only need one of the two pair for the last kid (Xmas). It was just too hard to resist a spare pair for that price. Cheers!

				Amp/DAC recommendation for D2000 & DT990

My SR-325i sounded worse with burn-in, as the bass went below the minimum acceptable level for me. -

Thinking of trying out Ultrasones... bad idea?
HeadphoneAddict replied to pomme de terre's topic in Headphones
Speaking of the monstrous Focal Grand Utopia - for anyone that heard them at RMAF in October, I and many others thought they sounded dark and muddy in the demo room. But they sound SO much better when properly set up in Dinan's living room rig with his MBL source and amps. The speakers are only on loan to him, but he is a very lucky guy to get to listen to them regularly. Too bad the Edition 8 don't really sound that good, or I would have bought a pair in a heartbeat. Fortunately, an O2 on a 717 amp does get closer, except for the smaller soundstage (Dinan's stat rig, but in a different room). -
I seem to recall that they do the serial number on the right in red, and in blue on the left if that helps.
 -
I'm curious, do you use the analog outputs of the Cary, or use it as a transport for a DAC? My CD5001 is only being used as a transport, although the RCA outputs are pretty decent when all I had was the CD5001 fed into a DV336i. I got the Apogee mini-DAC at the same time as my WA6, and it was quite an upgrade and fantastic with my JH13Pro. No hiss, hum or noise at all - just sweet music.
 -
It may have gotten hit by some static and just needed to reset itself. Anyways, the CD5001 is not a bad backup player, and I've been very happy with mine for 2 years now.
 -
When I tried the CD3000 with the 336i I had a Sylvania VT-231 in front and Tung Sol 5998 in the rear, which was great for my HD600 but it was too bright and nasal sounding with the CD3000. I suspect that my RCA or Hytron brown-base 5692 paired with the Tung Sol might have been a better match for the CD3000, as that combo helped tame the highs in my Grado RS-1 and gave them a fuller sound when using bowls for their bigger soundstage (bowls make RS-1 brighter and thinner sounding, and the 5692 helped with that). I still think the WA6 with an Amperex GZ34 rectifier would be a better choice than the 336i. An M^3 with bass boost might also be good with CD3000 since it was good with W5000.
 -
As stated above, the WA6 would be nice depending on the tubes, and I found an Amperex Bugle Boy GZ34 in my WA6 made Blutarsky's CD3000 sound better than with his ZD which sounded more SS and colder to me with the CD3000 (but the ZD was tuned perfect with HD650). Based on that, I'm guessing the Cavalli CTH or Head-direct EF1 with a Mullard 12AU7 would do the trick as well.

Thinking of trying out Ultrasones... bad idea?
HeadphoneAddict replied to pomme de terre's topic in Headphones
The Ultrasones are fun cans but not something I want to listen to day in and day out. The Proline 2500 were probably the more balanced ones out of those I've heard, but they sound a bit recessed in the mids and also needed a fairly warm colored amp to bring out their best (TTVJ portable Millett Hybrid was a great match). The HFI-780 were fairtly bass heavy and somewhat sibilant. The only ones I have now are the HFI-700DVD that are closer to the Pro 2500 than the 780's. If you like the 325i and want lighter, then I would consider the HF-1, RS-2 or RS-1. I have to warn you the stock cable sucks and I found that those are less congested sounding with an APS V3 cable (I put one on all three of those). I also feel that my HF-2 are not as heavy my old SR-325i even though they have metal cups (although I have not directly compared them and could be wrong), so you might consider those which I do like more than the HF-1 or RS-2. My APS V3 cabled RS-1 are a little better, but more expensive.
