You could always move the handgun to inside the waistband, or on the ankle, or in a pocket. I carry any of those ways depending on my mood or how I'm dressed. I have a nice Milt Sparks VersaMax II that allows tucking in a shirt over the holster/pistol so something like that is an option.

Maybe Boomana will want them?

wow, so the sansa clip+ is actually a good player now

That is a nice feature, and good no know about it. The AMP3 has that capability, but I am not impressed with the UI, the slow speed to initialize the library when using an 8GB micro-SD to augment the 4GB internal memory, or the extra hiss with sensitive IEM. Is the Clip+ a hisser or silent? -
Naamanf's W5000 did not sound good on my Woo WA6 at all, no synergy there (was even worse with the DV336i). They were much better on Naamanf's M^3 with bass control. The AD2K were much better to my ears, and only a little different sounding from my ESW10JPN. I thought the AD2K were too close to my HD600 to keep, but I would guess you'd like them more. If you get the W5000 you will likely begin a new journey to find the right amp that synergizes with them.

It sounded to me more like the issue is that they smell like cigarettes and so they are a bio-hazard, and not that they are covered in tar and nicotine that caused them to fail. Maybe I read it wrong, and I agree with the "you break it, you pay for it" philosophy. But does smelling like a cigarette disqualify one from repairs? I hate cigarettes, I have a lung disease that brings my oxygen levels to the high 80's, high 70's on a flight of stairs. I avoid smoke every chance I can. But I don't see why a smokey computer can't be fixed by a guy wearing a mask and gloves, or a bunny suit as we call them. It seems to me that it's more of that liberal green BS, that they are so special and above stooping to that level, so they rob the consumer of their rights. -
Sorry for the crappy photo. My NAD 533 with NAD PP2 preamp and Ortofon M2 Blue cart, EC ZDT amp with SRD-7 Mk2 SB transformer, Apogee mini-DAC with Nugget Audio Sigma 11 PSU, Samsung DVD transport, DLO Homedock HD with HDMI, Sharp Aquos 19" HDTV, HD800 phones, Stax O2 Mk1 in the case next to the rig. I'm thinking I might return the NAD PP2 and get a nicer preamp, but I still have 3 weeks to decide. I can't really DIY, so I'd be looking at a budget preamp already built. Wasn't sure it was worth it with the TT and cartridge that I have. The reviews of those has been good, but I would trust the opinions here more.

Starting point for upgrade from HR Home DAC?
HeadphoneAddict replied to rpaul's topic in Home Source Components
He did kinda answer the question himself. As far as DACs go, I still think I like my Apogee mini-DAC the most, it was just that the PS Audio DLIII just had better synergy with O2 Mk1 on the GES because it was brighter in 192Khz up-sampling mode. At RMAF I realized just how much the PS Audio can improve with the Cullen mods, when using a very revealing amp and phones to compare the stock PSA and a modded one. Stock it just doesn't have the refinement of the Apogee, and after that I moved the Apogee into my main rig with the ZDT amp, which is awaiting the Woo WES to come join it (a better match for the O2). I just can't say how much better the Apogee would be over the HR Home DAC built into the HR Max Desktop amp. The Apogee certainly will be cheaper than a Cullen modded PS Audio, unless you go for the Firewire option in the Apogee. The Pico DAC is excellent for a USB only DAC, and Iron_Dreamer sold me his old Apogee simply because he felt the Pico DAC/amp's USB performance matched or exceeded the Apogee's (using Pico as a DAC/preamp). I was never able to say the Pico was better, but the differences are small enough that I never felt the need to rank them. I do think the Pico DAC-only is slightly more transparent with slightly more micro-detail than the DAC/amp used as a preamp, and it very well could outperform the HR DAC when using USB. -
Needledrops on a Mac?

I have Audacity to record (free) and I am going to try my GEMSound USB A/D this weekend with my Macbook Pro. You could try that. My A/D box came with Soundsoap 2 SE to clean up the pops and crackles if needed, so that might be fun to try too. Don't know if it will muck up the sound or not, or if is even worth the $49 it would cost if it didn't come with the GEMSound for free. I doubt it will sound as good as the Apogee A/D. -
In the WES that I bought there is no SE input or phase splitter, so if I need to feed it single ended I'll use my Jensens Transformers ISOmax to convert the SE to balanced (like if I want to use my TT). And, my DAC is balanced so I'm all set. You should maybe give one of these a try sometime, as it works well and is very transparent.

You missed out on a good opportunity because I sold a spare ALO iMod 22g cryo LOD with optional charging port (discontinued) and 5v regulated power brick to Golden Ears at RMAF for $50, including shipping the charger after the meet. So, he can listen to the iMod without running down the battery.

ROFLMAO!!

Good thing you didn't say "nubile" young body.
-
stevenkelby and barqy on head-fi both made me an iMod LOD with the little blackgates in them, so you don't have to buy a super expensive one from ALO. I agree that the 5.5G is nicer because you can still use the headphone out which is decent with JH13pro, ES3X and UE11Pro. And, with the 5.5G iMod you can build your own desktop dock with Vcaps or auricaps and get even better sound than the blackgates that can color the sound a little. While with the 4G the blackgates are inside and you can't get around those - as you probably know, in the 4G iMod the DAC is wired to the caps and then headphone out as a line out. I suppose your iPod is out of warrantee and you don't want to buy a screen from eBay to install? Or, what if it is just a loose connector? Also, when you send it in for the mod it might make sense to get a new battery and have it installed while the iPod is open.

Elephas has the ES-1 we listened to at the Colorado meet July 2008, and Spritzer has the ES-1 that Afrikane donated to be repaired (as you know he documented all that was wrong as he fixed it).

I wanted to bid on that auction for Philips metal base EL34 that you linked us to, but I could simply not afford them. The current set on eBay is $2500 right now. Jack Wu says the tubes in the prototype WES that I recently bought from them cost $700, but $2500 is nuckin' futz.

Sherwood's used NAD 533 turntable with Ortofon M2 Blue cartridge, which I paired with an NAD PP2 preamp for a budget TT setup. I got a good deal, but it still set me back a bit more than Grawk's Sony PS-X500 would have cost (I traded an iBasso D2 DAC/amp and $100). I paired that with my Apogee mini-DAC/Sigma 11 > ZDT > HD800 and SRD-7 Mk2 for Stax O2 etc. I can hook up a third source to the ZDT, but for now it's just the TT and Apogee. I also have a GEMSound PL-USB to import LP's into my Macbook Pro with Audacity and Soundsoap SE 2 software. (One of my digital sources is an Apple TV hooked up via HDMI to a 19" HDTV and optical to the Apogee, and the other is the Samsung DVD player hooked up to the Apogee via coax and RGB to the HDTV, and then Apogee via USB to the Macbook.) See photo. All I have for vinyl right now are some albums that have been in a box for 17 years, many dating back to the 70's and 80's - so I'll be looking for some audiophile jazz and classical albums soon. I'm not entirely thrilled with the old recordings - for instance Dire Straits "Love Over Gold" is a little better and more dynamic on CD. I have the same recording of Handel Messiah on LP and CD (L'OSEAU-LYRE Christopher Hogwood), and I'll need to try that next. When the WES arrives I'll have to move the TT to the granite shelf behind the Salamander rack and put the WES in it's place. The TV might be moved to a wall mount to make room for the TT without having to hide it behind the WES. I'll be able to use the TT with the WES by using my Jensens Transformers ISOmax box to convert the SE TT preamp to XLR (no functional RCA on the prototype WES).

Too bad about the TT auction - that's almost like child abuse. How old is Aaron's kid? I am so thrilled to have my 11 year old son into music and headphone gear, that I'd be crushed along with my son if that happened to him. I guess it's an early lesson in real life.

I meant - someone needs to buy her A2 from her, if she got the A5.
-
Admittedly, I only sent a 50% deposit after selling my GES. Need to figure out what I should sell next...
-
Someone needs to buy her A2 as well (I have a pair, so not me).

The drivers were in stock when I sent mine in to be refurbished in early June 2008, and they got my HE60/HEV70 back to me within two weeks.
