Sure, I see where you're coming from. I forget I don't have to qualify those sorts of questions over here. The RME Fireface 400 is really a phenomenal interface, and I prefer it to its USB cousin. Your application may not require all it provides, however.

Does your PC have a firewire card? Lots of interfaces that support it aren't OS-specific

2-Channel System for Under $1k
Speakers are more complex than headphones, as they rely heavily on the room unless you're listening only nearfield. To your point, Dinny, the Alpha T1s are very good, and tailored for the client who is in the market for them. Reasonably linear response, sloping slightly down on top and slightly up on bottom, with a wide dispersion pattern, making room placement easy. You can back them right up against a wall and they still sound pretty decent. They're one of the most music oriented towers in their price range, as most everything else in that range is geared towards boomy home theater. Plus, I think they look good in Maple. The black looks tacky to me, but black almost always does (forgive me, master dust).

Most difficult to read fiction
But oh so worth it! I miss him dearly. For my vote, I always enjoyed kant a great deal (even knowing nothing of German), so it was never a chore. Orhan Pamuk, on the other hand, is maddeningly difficult for me to get through.

Interesting transplant phone?
I pulled this from the other site. I would surely protect my daughter from all you ortho weirdos, but nonetheless these pretty wood boxes may be of interest to you. A little pricy for a donor frame, maybe, but zebras died to make these headphones, and if anyone can fill them with felt, y'all can.

2-Channel System for Under $1k
I love them. I truly do. Musical, extremely well built, I sold them for two years. I've owned a pair for 5, and never upgraded them. I briefly bought a great pair of Usher BE718 to replace my Platinum M2 monitors, and decided against it. PSB's entry level, especially, is far ahead of the curve.

Moving to Monitors
No votes for the PSB? I'll give you gentlemen the benefit of the doubt, and assume you've never heard them. These are the most accurate monitors that Canada's NRC has ever turned out. They're made of honeycombed aluminum with a cherry veneer. They physically bolt to the custom stands in four places, and have a rounded bottom for further coupling with the stand (since they sit in it like a bowl). They're a 2-way reverse D'Appolito (with the midrange above the tweeter), and the midrange is horn loaded for further bass extension. Moreover, the stands are designed to be filled with lead shot, as I have them, bringing the weight to roughly 70 lbs. per speaker. These things are the bomb. Just thought y'all should know.

can somebody define for me the word transience...
Better than just OK, Dusty! It's a cultural stick we can use to defend ourselves against being called a homophobic good-ol-boys-club

That 320 BEE is a great deal. I owned one for years, and it never disappointed. Robust, good sounding, clean, and loud.

Sorry for your loss, Vicki. That must just leave a hole in your heart. Excellent news! Seems your cat had an exciting Labor Day weekend.

slow forum
Alternatively, I ask to keep the price on everything I buy, and get the buyer's permission to do the same for everything I sell. If I want to sell something for more than the market will bear, I'd prefer to know that before I waste my time. Likewise for the obverse -- if market prices are higher than what it is worth to me, I'd prefer to collect that windfall myself, rather than allow the buyer to possibly flip it for me.

Interesting home/wireless networking problem
Yes it does, and that's how I'd set it up. Guests can't network, they can only connect to the net. That's the way to go.

Not to split hairs, but isn't "unimpressive" sound one of the marks of an "impressive" amp? No "hey look at me" frequencies?
