July 11, 201510 yr Hey hey hey, that's my heritage. The intention of the dance is "living dolls" -- it takes a particular skill level to move without apparent locomotion. A lot of it is in the costuming, but it also requires a certain discipline to never kick the skirt accidentally. Think about how in Riverdance the motion of the legs doesn't translate up to the upper body and you get an idea of what's going on underneath the skirt.
July 11, 201510 yr I think the most difficult part of doing that must be keeping the body straight and not moving the head at all. I still wouldn't be surprised if at some point they disclosed that they use skates.
