In a similar vein (in that it's a clock and not a watch), this is what's going up on our orange-walled den/guest room. All the numbers and markings are actually cutouts.

38 mm is my preferred size.

My Suunto is 49.5mm and no longer looks all that huge to me but part of that is that it's all black. I'd certainly never get anything larger and for a dress watch I'd go smaller.

Dinny, I don't ever shop for specific watches, but rather watch for deals at chronoshark.com and 1saleaday.com. That said, shopnbc.com has a pretty good selection of watches in that price range.
