  • First off, why is this in the LCD-2 thread?  Second, the 727 has 350V rails so it can't really produce enough voltage to kill the drivers.  Now there are two main ways to destroy electrostat

  • The LCD-4 is twice as good as the LCD-2, and 1/3 better than the LCD-3.

  • Or a special edition that goes to LCD-11

Didn't want them covered in bird shit. :D

I find it humorous that they are refuting edwoods claims on the other site, even though that would explain why both he and Kevin Gilmore were not happy with certain aspects of the phones.

I am happy to report that the LCDs are on my head and blowing my ears off with pure bliss!!

nice! what are you driving them with? how do they measure up to your Thunderpants?

There must be something to that rig (Sony CDP + GS-1) since I really liked the HD800 with it. Didn't get to try any other headphones with it. Was the CDP the XA-5400ES? I don't remember.

Cheers all.

Driving them with the hastily fixed EHHA because I forgot to bring the Stacker home :)

They are seriously nice. A little more subdued in the upper mids/top than the pants and the bass goes just as deep. Very natural sounding which is almost odd. Phones to me generally don't sound natural so it's a bit of a new experience. They did a very good job on them indeed. Tight clamp but not uncomfortable. Once the pads loosen up a bit they'll be really nice to wear all day. Vocals are simply amazing in their presentation... sibilance is totally non-existent. They don't shout, boom, or do anything bad as far as I've been able to tell. They are just there. Quite an achievement.

Glad to hear they arrived and that they are every bit as good as we told ya :D ..dB

yes indeedy, I did have to bend out the headband a bit, it was crushing my skull ;)

That's great to hear, I don't have much to say but do you mind posting a few pics? you know that's always nice :)

Cool beans Smeggy!

Heh, wifey was just bitching about the noise I was making :)

Need closed LCD

Hehe

That brings up one of the Continuity of Plausibility tests for headphones: how well does the LCD-2 handle high SPLs? ie, does it stay clean when it plays loud enough to elicit bitching?

Well, I had to play it pretty loud to get over some room noise where I was demoing it, and it seemed to handle it with aplomb. I doubt I was pushing that high of an SPL though. I typically listen at 70-75dB, and this felt more like 85.

I always push headphones a bit hard when testing them and it does bring out some extra thickness in the bass. It wasn't a huge change (not like the SR-Omega for instance which really doesn't like high SPL) but noticeable.

:)

Actually, only one of the birds poops relentlessly and he is Stacy's bird. He doesn't like to be with me. So I almost never get pooped on. :)

According to the test sheets, the distortion stays within almost negligable levels at 100db so it should'nt have any trouble deafening us cleanly :)

There's a reason I'm asking: The test goes beyond the "but hey, whuddiffeye wanna headbang, huh?" and points to how well the makers did their work designing the magnetic structure of the 'phone.

Damnation, listening to Virgil Fox in concert playing Bach organ stuff.... :o

Best....bass.........EVAR!!

Well yeah, never seen one in the flesh yet. I don't think anyone around here has an O2

When it comes to bass impact I prefer orthodynamic headphones, O2 and other stats are nice, but my YH-100 has tactile yet detailed feel no other phones have. My 5 cents.
