February 12, 201115 yr do mbp/mba come with install cd's for os? could that be used or would one lose all the software that come preloaded. i dont know if macs come with all the bloatware that pc's come with.
February 12, 201115 yr apples don't ship with bloatware as such, and come with dvds (or usb key for mba) with os and additional software to be reloaded
February 12, 201115 yr is there an advantage to cloning the factory installed os vs a fresh install using the dvd?
February 12, 201115 yr Can the HDs be different sizes with each method? Edited February 12, 201115 yr by jvlgato
February 24, 201115 yr Ian, you had better check out the new models because Thunderbolt tech is teh futah! My link
February 24, 201115 yr 1920 by 1200 (native)Fuck yeah. Still wish they had squoze it into the 15", though. Did they ever have a 1200 MBP before?
February 24, 201115 yr thunderbolt is great and all. but i cant find anything besides that pegasus raid array they have on the website that natively supports thunderbolt...
February 24, 201115 yr thunderbolt is great and all. but i cant find anything besides that pegasus raid array they have on the website that natively supports thunderbolt... That's because it is brand new and the peripherals are not announced yet. Intel is having a press conference on this today. LaCie and Promise are committed to various products, and you can be damn sure that Apple's displays are going to have Thunderbolt connectors very soon, etc., etc., etc. Edited February 24, 201115 yr by Voltron
February 24, 201115 yr We'll see Al, I wouldn't be that enthusiastic about it. Some external HDD manufacturers have recently released USB 3.0 drives but nothing about Thunderbolt. I wish you're right, it looks a better interface, but USB's universality is a factor.

How can it not be awesome?

I wish you're right, it looks a better interface, but USB's universality is a factor. It's backwards compatible and even uses adapters to FW, USB, and other connectors. The first 500GB SSD by LaCie already looks badass: Little Big Drive Thunderbolt Plus, that shit is called "THUNDERBOLT"! How can it not be awesome?
February 24, 201115 yr Adapters? Nyam nyam, that sounds really good then. I suppose iMacs will be using TB on the next upgrade...
February 25, 201115 yr Author Ian, you had better check out the new models because Thunderbolt tech is teh futah! My link Yeah, once my tax return comes in (provided we're able to avoid this whole pesky government shutdown looming over everyone's heads), it's definitely the route I'm headed. I was worried about some of the rumors (Air-like form favor, no optical drive), but it looks like a hell of machine. I'm glad I waited. It looks like the 2.3 GHz i5 will be more than sufficient.
February 25, 201115 yr New macbook pro benchmarks The performance of the new MacBook Pros is amazing. The slowest MacBook Pro performs on par with the fastest previous-generation MacBook Pro, and the fastest MacBook Pro is 80% faster than the fastest previous-generation MacBook Pro. Thunderbolt demo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kidmWiqKzqY Nice improvement, now that my toshiba died( no more plastic shit) I'm going to buy my first macbook but still not sure if the air or the 13' pro. February 25, 201115 yr Damn and damn. And the store has an option for a 512 GB SSD. And I could eventually replace all the @#()$*ing cabling here with Thunderbolt/DisplayPort. If only it could cook as well and I could make my wife happy as well by buying one.
February 25, 201115 yr The 13 MBP with the 2.3, 8 GB RAM and 500 or 750 GB drives is tempting. I think I am going to continue to wait for the i5 processor to make it to the MBA's.
February 25, 201115 yr FWIW, for those looking to hold onto a system for the long-term it may pay to wait a short while for the new generation of SSD's to come through. Speeds and prices areboth going to improve considerably in the near future...... http://www.anandtech.com/show/4186/ocz-vertex-3-preview-the-first-client-focused-sf2200
March 9, 201115 yr I think the i5 air with an external display would make a darn spiffy desktop replacement.
