  1. Past hour
  2. Venezuela is also a major source of gold. Both were being purchased largely by China. They also want Greenland. What's driving this is not So much what we want, but making sure China can't have it. Iran cooked themselves. Their total lack of water management has doomed their capital. 10 million people and no water. Instead of spending $$$ on weapons and nukes, they should of invested in desalination and piped down water to important areas. There should be a lesson in all this to California. Right now only San Diego is doing it, but isn't even covering half their needs.
  3. That's my fault. I love/LOVE/LURV everything Sheena Ringo/Tokyo Jihen, so that's probably why it showed up on your feed. LOL, never mind, I was confused. Unrelated:
  4. Today
  5. ^^ thanks youtube copyright whatever... Anyway - this has a groove. Just have to get past the 45 seconds of the most boring intro ever...
  6. Gag-ish gift as in stocking stuffers. Forgot to post as I don’t even currently have the vinyl rig connected, but all the best holiday 2025 Tiny Vinyls. Reconfigured listening rig soon.
  7. I remember that stuff!
  8. ok, this is head case :), what do you mean by inexpensive? I found it almost impossible to motivate myself to ride a purely mechanical trailer. Just got bored. I would get any trainer that would connect to zwift, and would read https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2020/11/trainer-recommendations-winter.html to get an idea about what the options are.
  9. Anyone know anything about indoor trainers for the winter? Looking for an inexpensive one to use during the icy parts of winter. Lmk how you like it. Any idea how much it runs for?
  10. Ditto. I have a Sony UHP-H1 as an SACD player, so it's probably not comparable to a stack of separates from dCS or EMM Labs 💸 There have been very few pop/rock albums that were recorded for hi-res from the beginning - the few recordings were usually converted from old masters. I have a few jazz and classical SACDs, but most of them were also from old sources (1950s-60s) so it's hard to say whether the better sound quality comes from the format or the number of times the masters have been fixed and edited. In general, I get the impression it would take a knockout recording and an extremely expensive chain of equipment to notice the difference - also, I think people underestimate how good CD quality can sound on modern equipment. In the early days of hi-res, I think much of the novelty came from the new multi-channel mixes (like 5.1 or more), rather than the actual quality improvement on a stereo recording. And don't get me started on HDCD... Personally, I'd still rather buy CDs and SACDs than invest in a high-res digital streaming or files library setup.
  11. What Dan said....I also think it's about the recording and mastering first. I have several things on 16-44 that I also have on hi-rez. The improvements I hear seem to be less about the format and more about changes in how the recording was made. All that said....I still like to have hi-rez copies of things because....well, hi-rez 🤣
  12. I do a lot of live concert recording at 96/32 or 192/32, and so I do playback at that, but as you say, the primary advantage is hi res sources are likely better mastered. 48/16 has plenty of dynamic range and resolution for most recordings.
  13. A couple years ago I finally remembered that my DAC can decode hi-res digital so I got a bunch of music to see if 24/96 and SACD were any better than plain old CD. The results have been mostly disappointing for me, most of the hi-res recording sound different but not really any better than the standard CD versions; I don't get the extra space, realism, details, and sweeter highs that hi-res proponents claim to hear. I've tried a lot of different genres from jazz & classical to metal and I'd say only around 10-15% of the music is better enough to make the hi-res version worth it, the rest of it is either marginal improvements or just different but not better. Overall I'm pretty disappointed, the potential is there with hi-res but like CD it's often limited by how good the recording & mastering was. I'm curious to hear what you guys think, has hi-res digital been worth it with the music you listen to?
  14. To be determined (most likely the sturgill)
  15. looks like my lumberjacking will have to wait a bit. 🪓
  16. If Only AI suggested "Saybrook Sage" "A soothing aloe hue cooled with a splash of gray." Was rejected as "too dark". Manually eyeballing color swatches etc ended up with candidate short list of 4. AI allowed me to place some candidate furniture in a picture of of one the bedrooms / potential office, and with the right prompting and sample "digital dollops" ... WIth the original walls it looks like The Candidate Colors chosen were Budding Green CSP-790 https://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-colors/color/csp-790/budding-green Calming Aloe 533 https://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-colors/color/533/calming-aloe Stolen Moments 477 https://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-colors/color/477/stolen-moments Sweet Caroline 478 https://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-colors/color/478/sweet-caroline
  17. so the idea is to keep the voltage going to the 10m90s that drives the zener string between 600 and 900v. depending on voltage input, just a standard voltage doubler will push the voltage well above 1kv. and no reason for this. so in the very original spoilers, a pot was added to spoil some of the voltage that would normally have been generated by a standard doubler.
  18. Took the new bike out for a first ride today. My new shoes (five ten) need to have the release adjusted, because when I stopped, I fell over because my left foot wouldn't let go. I need to adjust the front brake, it's grabbing intermittently. It could use some minor fit adjustments, but over all, I'm pretty happy with the fit, I got the right size. The big issue is I haven't ridden enough to make a difference since I met my wife in late 2020, so I'm in AWFUL shape. I was gassed after less than a mile. Kayaking isn't a particularly aerobic exercise. I'm gonna set up my indoor setup with my old bike and see if I can get slightly less out of shape before trying anything not mostly flat outside again.
  19. they're "green beige" and "green grey"
  20. I’ve mostly finished the layout at this point. The current board size is 107 mm × 166 mm, and it integrates the following onto a single PCB: Bias GRLV interface Circlotron PSU interfaces Soft-start circuit Four IXTH6N100 Stand outside. Should be fine w/o heatsinks. Both Circlotron supplies merged into one board. For reference, the original Circlotron PSU boards were roughly 176 mm × 190 mm per board, so the overall footprint has been reduced to well under half the original total area while keeping full functionality. The shrink seems reasonably successful so far. There is one point I’m still not fully confident about (see Fig. 4): C15, left side +HVAC-N — which rectifier bridge should this node reference? In the non-floating implementation, it would naturally reference the rectifier feeding B+. However, once the supply is fully floating, I’m not entirely sure which point should be considered the correct reference for this connection, and I’m unclear which node I should be tying it to. Any clarification on the correct reference point here would be appreciated.

    Deals

Dunno where Woot is getting these from, but they have new Nikon D800 bodies going for $629. While a couple of notches below the latest D810 model, this has to be the best deal in full-frame DSLRs atm.
  22. Is that seriously green? I'm colorblind and that... none of those look green to me in the slightest. I can't tell if you're fucking with me or not. Could go either way.
  23. I don't know about the new MS Windows logo
  24. Had Joanne compare similar different greens under various lighting conditions in various locations. Apparently getting Gemini / nano banana to replace wall colors in a picture isn't good enough 🤷‍♂️ Also, how many greens are there. Many many many apparently.
  25. Living under large Redwoods, Mikey, I understand the trauma of laying in bed listening to huge gusts of wind and cringing, hoping one of those "widow makers doesn't break off and find its way to the roof. Glad you'll have a little more piece of mind.
  26. Figured I'd post this picture here as well as in the Stax thread, MA-009 vs SR-009D I've just been on holiday so no work on this project but I'll probably make some new diaphragms for the MA-009 soon. The ones in there are just too unstable, any major airpressure and they just stick to the stators.
