Grok Headphones in Fullness

  1. Started by Danport,

I want a headphone to use on my exercise bike. The bike is quite noisy, so I need noise isolation. I understand from some browsing that the In Ear Monitors are nice for noise isolation, value, and sound quality. I am looking at the etymotic ER-4P, and the Shure E4c, or something in that price range (about $300 list, $175 online price) I like to listen to a variety of music, including rock, bluegrass, jazz and classical. Thanks for any advice.

Hi, WTF did they use to stick the pads to early Phones(2000).The crap is like black tar and as hard to get off. I managed to scrap it off the plastic cases but getting it off the pads is a real shit. Any suggestions for removal and what do you use to reglue. Thanks Les

  4. So, I've had these for a bit now, say 5 days. Those that used to lurk at H-F will probably know I detested disliked the K701's and managed to swap them for some dt-990-250's (2005) through some FS forum and ebay kung-fu. Currently using PowerMac (toslink or usb) -> 0404 usb (1/4" to old monster studiolink RCA) -> Glite w/ elpac -> dt-990's. I'm sure arguments could be made about the quality of my rig, but given budget constraints (and the roving eyes of the woman - thankfully the glite is tiny and the 0404 USB gets used for recording too), I think it is pretty damn decent. Definately approaching the elbow in the price/performance diminishing returns curve…

Hi, I'm new to the forum and have a question that may be painfully obvious to all (except me). Can the SR-X Mk 3 be drive by one of Stax's SRM amps, or does it only work through the SRD adapters? Thanks

  7. I'd appreciate impressions from those of you who have heard a balanced HF-1 compared to a balanced RS-2 or RS-1. Basically, I'm trying to decide if I want to move on from my HF-1.

  8. Is it just me, or does anyone else think that the Sennheiser 280 PRO New Model has less noise isolation then the original model?

Just came today, which is nice cause I just scraped like half my knee off. Anyway, my first impressions are, believe it or not, it sounds kind of like an uber KSC35, if you can imagine that. If you didn't know, this was made by AKG awhile ago (sometime in the 80s I think), and has two drivers in each cup for a total of 4 drivers.

  10. Not exactly sure, but I think the product comes with the earbuds+decoration general pic of em It comes in 4 flavors. Here's some direct links showing them (some flash thing with zoom, so you can see the intricate detail) :limestone (?), fringe, fur, and lace. I'll admit there's an god awful amount of detail going into some of these, thought I still find them completely wasteful.

  11. I'm thinking about picking up a pair of these or MS2i headphones. The problem is that I have never read anything on the MS Pro. Have any of you auditioned them? What were they like?

  13. Is there a list of all headphones that have the HD580/600/650 style connectors? I know it's bass-ackwards, but I kind of wouldn't mind being able to browse said list. I can't seem to find my HD250-II's anywhere, and I think it's the only one I have left of that style. (I ran across it recently, so it's not completely gone, just haven't been able to find it since then.)

http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/SY_DisplayProductInformation-Start?ProductSKU=MDRD777LP&DCMP=Redirect_ss_MDRRD777LP Looks scarily similar to triports in some ways... But it is a new contender in the closed headphone market, and seems to have something PTH like built in. Ultrasone also have announced their Edition 9, which seems to be a repackaged Edition 7.

I've started noticing a certain amount of discolouration and and 'ragging' at the edges of the "pads". (as 010 owners know, "pad" is a bit of a misnomer) What would you recommend for nourishing the 010 leather? NO ARMOR ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (oh yeah, perhaps no need to say that... Sovkiller's gone )

Has anybody heard the Senn HD238's? I am currently using PX100's for portable and am looking to replace them. From what I have read, seems like they may be a decent choice.

  18. Started by deepak,

I really like the K1000 and Grados. The HD650 is cool too, just looking for a third headphone. Just wondering how the bass and soundstage is compared to the HD580 or HD650 (even K501)? Is there good extension on both ends? Going to use it with the built in amp on the Lavry. addendum: I really disliked the HD590. It was one of the worst expensive headphones I've heard. It was my benchmark for no midrange...the 595 does improve on it a lot right...? And after spending a lot of time with the 580/650, if I were to call any Senn dark it would be the 590.

How would I go about getting Sony replacement pads? I've got a MDR-F1 that looks like it's on its last legs.

Well we have all read reviews about the new Beyer?s, namely the DT880?s and the DT990?s so I won?t boar you with more dribble other than to say that I am a Beyer fan and like the new ones even more than the old ones. My review of the DT 990?s would be very positive. What I do want to comment on is my ?re-cableing of the DT 990?s. I used two 10 foot lengths of Mogami pure copper cable (shield and vinal removed) to put two 22ga. leads to each terminal for a total of eight wires used. I did it in a ?Y? configuration and drilled a hole in the other cup as opposed to running a length through the headband. No other mods were done. The end result: The sounds explode four…

http://www.akg.com/personal/powerslave,id,15,nodeid,15,_language,EN.html Looks like they've refreshed their studio line of headphones. My first "big boy" headphones was the K271 S. I still have a soft spot for it. Might be interesting to hear the new K 272 HD. As far as closed headphones go, the K271 S was pretty darn good for the $150-200 price tag.

  25. My Criteria for at work headphones: - under $200 - don't want my boss to think i dont need a raise - not showy - huge cans make it look like I'm not working - extra amp not feasible - might "walk off" - have to work with a dell 610 laptop - like to have some bass - open cans will bother my neighbors thank you experts!
