Hello Everyone, Stax noob here. I'm fairly new to electrostatics, but I did do my research before upgrading from my SRM-3. I managed to snag a 717 in what seems to be extremely good condition for around 670 USD a couple months ago. I've been really enjoying it, but I want to make sure the thing will last. I've read several times now that the electrolytic caps are a concern with aging Stax amps, and I want to know if they are any parts that need to be replaced in my unit in the near future. Calling Reks, calling Reks ..... where did you get the grado cable and the screen mod done to those sr-80's. I love em! I added a headphone pad and they even fit well with good comfort. I might get another pair of sr-80's .... or maybe even a 225 .... and get them modded like these.

Hello all! I am an engineer and a big fan of perfect audio, especially on my headphones. Some time ago, I bought the AKG k612 headphones and I love them. Perfect and clean audio, very open scene and the design! Worth every $ I spent on it. However, the one problem I found is that I am concerned about the headbands distortion, when not using it and hanging on headphone hanger. That's why (as an engineer) I started thinking of the solution, how to store my k612 and be calm about headbands. Stereophile: Between the Ears: the art and science of measuring headphones

So, I've had these for a bit now, say 5 days. Those that used to lurk at H-F will probably know I detested disliked the K701's and managed to swap them for some dt-990-250's (2005) through some FS forum and ebay kung-fu. Currently using PowerMac (toslink or usb) -> 0404 usb (1/4" to old monster studiolink RCA) -> Glite w/ elpac -> dt-990's. I'm sure arguments could be made about the quality of my rig, but given budget constraints (and the roving eyes of the woman - thankfully the glite is tiny and the 0404 USB gets used for recording too), I think it is pretty damn decent. Replacing ear pads is alcohol the best solution to remove old glue ? H ave the new ones already. Hey all, Sold my pair of QP 85's to Dusty Chalk and the foam on the earpieces is deteriorating. Anyone on here have any experience with them or any of the other MB Quart float style headphones? Any ideas how to disassemble them or what the foam should be replaced with? Thanks in advance, Jay

I'm thinking of picking up another pair of 650s or 6XXs, but there are rumors that the newer ones that are assembled in Romania are somewhat different than the made-in-Ireland sets. Hi all, has anyone heard the Antique Sound - MG Head DT/OTL MK III with the AKG K701's? The reason I ask is I have a VAL E10 amp right now which I'm very disappointed in. It barely has anymore gain or volume than my iPod! Funny thing is it's rated for an output at 300mW into 100 Ohms. That seems like it has quite a bit more output than the Antique Sound - MG Head DT/OTL MK III. What is the input sensitivity of that amp? The Val is 750mV. Perhaps the ASL amp has a higher input gain? Any info into this would be greatly appreciated. I really like the exterior build quality of the ASL amp. After some suggestions and requests I decided to listen to the same set of songs, but with the different pads on the MS2i and HF-1s. Right now I'm enjoying the MS2is with flats, but I do like the detail that the bowls provide. Overall the HF-1s are in the middle of the two MS2is with the different pads (bowls and flats).
